Today we’d like to introduce you to Richard Mann.
Hi Richard, It’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us. To start, could you share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my journey in psychology during college. I was initially a premed student, but after finishing my premed courses, I decided to pursue a more holistic approach to healing. After finishing my undergraduate studies at Purdue University Calumet, I continued to study at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, where I completed my Master’s and Doctorate Degrees. I conducted my postdoctoral training in community mental health on Chicago’s south side, then moved to Austin, where I have been working at a private group practice providing therapy and psychological testing for the past five years.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It could have been a smoother road. Some of my most notable struggles have included a lack of financial resources throughout school, difficulties with work/life/school balance, and minimal professional mentorship. Fortunately, I have had abundant moral support from family and friends throughout my journey.
Let’s switch gears and talk about work. What should we know?
At Insight Psychology, I currently provide individual, couples, and family therapy and various types of psychological assessment. I specialize in therapy forms designed to systematically locate and heal injured parts of the self through nonjudgmental self-observation. Due to the confidential nature of the services, it is difficult to say what sets me apart from other therapists. Still, I am most proud of the consistent effectiveness of my therapy.
