Inspiring Conversations with Sabine Countryman of The Sacred Intuition Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabine Countryman.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was an only child and moved around a lot as a kid. As a result I learned to make friends quickly and fit in with all sorts of people so I was always a part of several different cliques. I guess because of that I became the person that people would always talk to. When it came time to choose a college major I went in every direction EXCEPT the helping fields. The universe had other plans and presented barriers to everything I tried until I found my home in the psychology, sociology and anthropology departments. People, communities, tribes, and societies fascinated me. When I graduated with my bachelor’s degree I knew that I wasn’t done with my education so I grabbed a newspaper to see what the best route would be to a career where I could work with people and help them make positive changes in their lives or the lives of others. I landed on social work. At the time, in the mid 90’s, social work was not only the most sought after master’s degree for my goals it was also the path of least resistance to a terminal degree. From the time I earned my master’s degree until just a few years ago I was on the road as a field social worker. I began in foster care and adoption as a counselor for foster children with severe medical and/or behavioral needs. After about 8 years I took a hiatus to care for my own special needs child. Then in 2006 a friend of mine invited me to apply for a social worker position at the hospice where she worked. My initial reaction was “No, way!” At the time I had no desire to work with the elderly population. Thankfully, my friend convinced me to work PRN for her hospice agency and from that point on I was hooked. I was hospice social worker for 18 years. I also worked in nursing home and hospital case management which kept me close to and a better practitioner in hospice social work. Hospice is my heart and soul, but I grew weary of the road and decided to park my car a couple of years ago and go into private practice where my clients come to me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road was not smooth. Most roads aren’t. I had challenges in my childhood that fostered in me a resilience and determination that gave me the power and passion to overcome not only external obstacles and challenges but also ones within myself. I have an amazing son who has Asperger’s syndrome, now classified as high functioning autism. The education and advocacy required to insure that his needs were met by myself, family, and schools was full-time job in addition to raising my youngest intellectually gifted son and having a full time career. As I entered a period of self discovery I realized that my sexual orientation may not be exactly “straight.” In 2009 the hospice agency I had just relocated for also discovered this and fired me stating budget issues. I later found out from one of the administrators that it was the owner’s decision to fire me based on my sexuality. There was no recourse for LGBTQ individuals in the work place at the time so I had to hustle to find a job to support myself and my kids as I was also newly divorced. There have been many other challenges. Relocation to Austin in 2017 was a major adjustment for professional and personal reasons. I had a yoga studio for about a year and a half, until it died from Covid in July of 2020. Everyone struggles. There are challenges and obstacles everywhere. I have overcome them, but most importantly I learned from them. I learned a lot about people and I learned even more about myself.

We’ve been impressed with The Sacred Intuition Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I opened my business in September of 2025 so it’s still only a fledgling. I am an LCSW, licensed clinical social worker, in private practice as a psychotherapist. My focus is forward. It is important to understand where you came from and how trauma may have played a roll in your life. It is more important to understand who you are now and where to go in that identity. But there is more to it than that. I mentioned my yoga studio in the previous question. My yoga practice and certification put me into with my “woowoo” side. From there I have actively explored Paganism, divination, and other ways of understanding and healing. I incorporate divination readings and sound healing into my therapy practice for clients who are interested. I also provide divination and sound healings privately and on their own or in combination. Divination in therapy allows me and my client to explore new questions and answers in order to gain deeper understanding of circumstances and possibilities. Sound Healing is an excellent tool for relaxation and meditation which has had scientifically proven results in reducing stress, anxiety, physical pain, and improving motivation and productivity. The blending of these practices is what sets me apart from other therapists and their practices. I call myself a Metaphysical Psychotherapist.

What are your plans for the future?
I have no big changes planned for the future. Opening this business 5 months ago was a big enough change, for now. I am looking forward to growing The Sacred Intuition Studio, both the mental health side and the metaphysical and sound healing side, into a recognized and respected name that people look for when they need understanding, compassion, comfort, safety, and maybe a little humor with some magic on the side.
