Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Krenek.
Hi Sean, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi!
My name is Sean Krenek and I started Austin Event Lighting in 2012 after trying to manage a band and pushing to get into the entertainment industry. I grew up in Austin and attended St. Edward’s University for undergraduate and graduate. I wanted to work in live music since the first Austin City Limits Festival downtown. My parent’s owned a wedding venue and after the artist management debacle, the suggested maybe I start a lighting company and that would give me the equipment to do my own events. Always gotta love a good push from the parents!
So then I started my journey in production. We started with weddings and then SXSW really got us moving. We used to do 40% of our year in those ten days the first few years of the company. We then started building our inventory and knowledge, and then I started to team up with people that actually knew what they were doing. Things kicked into high gear around 2018 and 2019 and then Covid happened. We pretty much brought things to a bare minimum team and made a lot of magic happen. We’ve been growing ever since and bought out 20,000sqft building last July.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road to go down. All the equipment had been drastically evolving over the last ten years and has only become more complicated. Skilled people that know how to execute projects is always a struggle. Keeping up with high expenses and pushing growth continues to be a struggle, but I love what I do.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Austin Event Lighting has a goal of creating incredible experiences for everyone involved. We specialize in corporate events, wedding of any scale, corporate activations, concerts, festivals, and just about any special occasion a client wants to enhance.
Our strong work ethic and eagerness to just do a good job I believe keeps us growing.
I’m the most proud that we continue to grow after twelve years in the industry.
As far as what I want readers to know, hard work pays off and if they need any AV needs, we’re available!
What are your plans for the future?
We’d like to grow into a few markets in the Texas area. And we’re always excited about new equipment.
