Inspiring Conversations with Sydney Carter of Sydney Rene LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Carter

Sydney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Originally from Dallas. Texas. I played basketball in college at Texas A&M University from 2008 -2012. I won a national championship in 2011. I went on to be the 27th pick in the 2012 WNBA draft and enjoyed a 4year career. Additionally i played overseas for 7.5 years in Israel and Latvia before retiring and beginning my coaching career at Texas A&M. i started as the video coordinator then to assistant recruiting coordinator. After 2 seasons, I joined the Texas WBB Staff as an Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not. Along the road, I faced many challenges such as getting cut multiple times in WNBA training camps, not getting any playing time my first few collegiate games, suffering a knee injury that eventually forced me to retire, people thinking I was not ready to coach, and much criticism(still to this very moment) about my choices of gameday attire. Just to name a few.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sydney Rene LLC?
My business is ME! I have built a brand on my authenticity, confidence and representation of taking up good space both in my professional job and entrepreneurship. I specialize in literally being myself and showcasing the strength to withstand societies “norms” and what is considered professional. My unwillingness to apologize sets me apart and sets the tone for who i am. I am most proud that for the past 3 years I have not dimmed my light for anyone. It’s important for me to show that representation matters and i will continue to lead with positivity instead focusing on negativity.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Dont be afraid to go to the event, approach that somebody, make yourself available, and walk in the room and own it. I have found that the fear of being rejected or told no, doest exist in a world of success.
