Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Billingsley
Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It will be 2 years this May that The Home Ops had its first paying client. The Home ops started as a home organization company that organically evolved into the company of my dreams. The Home ops is now a whole home organization + functional interior design company.
I started The Home Ops after helping a dear friend move from, and out of, a home during a difficult time in her life. I helped her get settled into the new space while her kids were at school. When I saw the tears of relief come from her when she saw what I did, I knew I wanted to keep doing exactly that. Provide relief and support in expert ways in people’s busy life.
I began my business by telling a close circle of (very supportive) friends. I had two of them hire me right away, and they began to spread the word. From there, I have grown my current referral based business into my dreams. The Home Ops now offers home organization, interior design, moving packages, custom built-in storage, and Fall porch decorating. It is a company with home organization and function at the foundation, and then offers layers of support for home operators.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it always been smooth? No, but also yes- The smooth parts of been how natural the company and work has felt, and the feeling of ‘I am exactly where I am supposed to be’. The hard parts are what you don’t see, or those who haven’t started a business from the ground up don’t understand. Every part has felt scary or nerve racking. It’s vulnerable to put yourself out there, and not know if anyone is going to find the value. The self doubt that comes in as you try to not look back, and only forward. The loneliness that comes with a one woman show of not being able to truly share the successes, the losses, and the mental load with anyone else. The financial flux from going from a “safe corporate” consistency to the ebbs and flows of a new business. The angst and sleepless nights of giving everything you have into something, and wondering how to grow it into what you see as the potential.
All that to say, the feeling of being able to do something that feels innately in every fiber of my being outweighs all of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Home Ops . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My background is in Retail Operations, and I essentially transferred my expertise from retail stores to the home. Instead of supporting the store employees and customers, I support home operators and the people that live in it.
The Home Ops has two main pillars of home organization and design. I can support a whole home renovation from concept to design, packing and unpacking to optimal organization or I can take on just an organization or just a design project. I do a lot of custom built-ins and cabinetry to give spaces of the home more timeless functionality, and then organize it at completion.
It is a company that looks at the entire home holistically. (1) Organization and setup, (2) beautification elements, (3) design, and (4) home operators. In each layer, they must all work together to create a beautiful home with processes that supports the individuals living in it. By doing this, I am able to give them a little time back to focus on the other important things… like- self care, kids, family and friends.
I am a mom of three and know first hand how efficiency in day to day transitions are pivotal in your life. Smooth Operations (Ops) reduces friction, reduces frustration during these times of quick transitions, allow for more patience, and just give an overall happier space to live in for all members of the household.
I used to work in corporate, traveled often, and always had so many balls to juggle at all times. The ethos of the company is to support people in similar situations where I can help give them time back, take weight off their shoulders, and make big impacts in their daily life. I wanted to do something with my time away from my family that not only helped financially support us, but also felt meaningful for myself and others.
I am so proud of the work and support I have been able to give to clients. The testimonials I receive give me so much life and the energy to keeping looking forward.
What matters most to you?
Customer Experience, from start to finish. Next would be- Functionality and application. I don’t want to ever do a job that is “okay, but _____”. I want to end a project that hits the functionality piece I strive for, and the application improves their home processes and environment.
