Inspiring Conversations with Taylor Harrell of Lively Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Harrell.

Hi Taylor, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Lively Company with $500 in the bank and rent was due in less than two weeks. I couldn’t fail, and so I went for it. Lively Company was founded in Austin, Texas in October 2019. Lively has since grown to be an award-winning company and expanded to six businesses. Lively is woman-owned and women-led.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My sister and I started Lively during Covid-19 by selling handmade vegan bath-bombs and soaps. It was something fun and educational to do with my baby sister ( we are 21 years apart). Along with Lively, I created five other companies in the digital space. It was a wild and humbling experience to come from making bath-bombs to now working with multiple billion-dollar brands.

As you know, we’re big fans of Lively Company. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The proudest moment throughout my journey in brand development is employing strong women and working with other woman-based companies. Through this implementation, I created an emphasis on “teamwork makes the dream work” while promoting open communication.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The most important lesson coming out of Covid-19 was the journey of working with teams remotely. The whole being on Zoom all the time was just sucking the fun and creativity out of myself and my team. I relied on collaboration and an open-door policy, just like a professor with office hours. As a founder in my companies, another hat I put on was becoming an advocate on mental health, by checking in daily on how everyone was doing. It brought a new level of awareness within my team and it made us a powerhouse out of Covid.
