Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Duran.
Hi Vanessa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I used to work at Neiman Marcus Las Vegas when I was 19. I made a million dollars in sales in my first year. I knew this was my passion. I have always loved dressing women and men. I used to sell $100 t-shirts, $300 pairs of jeans, and thousands of dollars in dresses, and I told myself one day that I would open up my boutique and offer quality fabrics and prints with similar looks at a fraction of the cost. I used to come to this little town outside of Austin called Marble Falls yearly since I was 15, and I just loved this town. One summer when I was 24, I was driving down a winding road in Hawaii, and as I looked back, I thought to myself, I’m going to move to Texas and open up my shop and call it Plenty.
Let’s dig deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
The first year I did good and was missing Las Vegas, where all my 11 siblings were still living. I was thinking, ok, I did it. I was successful. Now I’ll move to LA and get into movie wardrobe styling. Then I could be closer to my siblings. My husband and I got pregnant with our second child and decided to open up my second location, a kid’s store, and in year 3, my 3rd location in Austin, Bee Cave area. At first, it seemed like everything was smooth, but there were many obstacles, especially with our Austin store with hiring and Expensive rent.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We have been in business in our main location, Plenty, for almost 14 years. We carry women’s clothing accessories, shoes, and children’s, and slowly incorporate men’s tees and Jewelry. We did in-house wardrobe styling for free and were known for our magic shirts. “Hides the bad shows the Good.” And the best selection of Spanx leggings, jeans, and shapewear.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That I am one of 12 children and have been with my husband since I was 15 (he was 16) born and raised in Las Vegas and have 3 children, 16,11 and 4
