Today we’d like to introduce you to Warren Yanez.
Hi Warren, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, my mother tried putting me in a variety of sports, but it wasn’t my calling. Since I’d grown on my teachers’ radar as being the “tech-guru”, my 8th-grade coach asked me if I’d be interested in filming both home and away football games. What started as a simple “follow the ball” task grew into a passion for filming football. I’d received good feedback and was nominated to dive deeper as I began my High School media path with Lockhart Lion Athletics.
From a fast freshman year growing as much as my mentors allowed me, by my sophomore year, I was promoted to “head of football operations.” I decided to expand my student resume and started photographing as a hobby. It’s been an ongoing learning experience and opened a new door for me to attend a nine-day photojournalism program, hosted by the National Student Leadership Conference. Fundraising for this opportunity was lots of hard work, but well worth it. This experience changed everything for me! While visiting Washington, D.C., I met incredible people, pushed myself creatively, and was honored to be the only student in my cohort to receive the best photographer award.
Soon after, I was recognized during a school board meeting by Lockhart Independent School District for demonstrating “Locked in Excellence.” This meant a lot to me because they showed that my work, behind the scenes, was making an impact. Since then, I’ve continued to build my portfolio by volunteering, networking, and freelancing in my community. I also had the opportunity to intern with a local photography studio, which gave me even more real-world experience. Every step I’ve taken has helped me grow and it’s shown me that I’m where I’m supposed to be!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me was finding a way to attend the nine-day photojournalism program with the National Student Leadership Conference. As a single-parent household, I saw firsthand the effort my mom put in to support me. We worked hard through fundraising, and I also applied for and received a tuition offset through an essay I wrote. That experience taught me a lot about perseverance and not taking opportunities for granted.
Watching my mom’s work ethic and determination has been one of my biggest motivators. Her mindset and drive have pushed me to keep going, even when things feel challenging.
Another challenge I’m currently facing is expanding my skills in videography. While I’ve gained experience filming football games and even using drones for coverage, I’m still learning how to create more advanced content like reels and edited video projects. Since my long-term goal is to work in professional sports media, potentially at the NFL level, I sometimes feel like I’m playing catch-up in that area.
However, I see that as part of the process. I know that with continued practice, mentorship, and networking, I’ll keep improving and create more opportunities for myself. Every challenge I’ve faced so far has helped me grow, and I’m confident the same will happen as I continue developing my skills.
We’ve been impressed with Warren Yanez Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating warm, cinematic photographs that feel like stills from a movie. To me, life unfolds like a film, and I aim to capture that in every frame. I’m known for going above and beyond—my clients often say they receive exceptional value from each session. I’ve developed a quick, intuitive eye behind the camera, allowing me to capture moments without missing a beat.
I’m most proud of how far I’ve come and the opportunities that have shaped my growth. As a student photographer, I’m currently saving to upgrade my Nikon gear to continue improving my work. With my mom’s support, I’ve been able to expand beyond Lockhart and seek clients across the Austin and Central Texas area.
As of 2026, I charge $65 per hour with minimal travel fees. I provide a fast turnaround time for fully edited images, which are delivered through an online gallery for easy access and unlimited personal printing. To maintain the quality and consistency of my work, I do not provide RAW (unedited) images; only professionally edited final photos are delivered.
I’m available for bookings, quotes, and questions through Google, Facebook, and TikTok, and I’m excited to continue growing, collaborating, and building my path in media.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I owe so much to the people who have guided me along the way. My biggest thank-you goes to my eighth-grade coach, Coach Willie Boyd, who first introduced me to this path and allowed me to get started.
I also want to recognize my media mentors, Mr. Connelly O’Dell Bishop and Jacob Reyna, who opened my eyes to a world of creativity and endless possibilities. A huge thank-you as well to Courtland Bragg—an editor, producer, and filmmaker who has mentored me on how to get a head start on my path toward the NFL and guided me on what college programs to look into.
Of course, I am endlessly grateful to my mom, Tiffany Gutierrez, and my aunt, Michelle Peralez. Their constant encouragement, support, and belief in me have pushed me to keep going, even when things felt challenging.
Another big thank-you goes to Head Coach Mike Maldonado and the Lockhart Lion coaching staff. One of the most meaningful moments for me was being recognized by the football program with a Servant Leadership Award. I’m not a player, but I’ve spent countless hours capturing moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. That experience showed me that storytelling isn’t just about taking photos, it’s about being part of something bigger than myself and helping others feel seen.
I’m also incredibly honored that my sports photography has been featured in the Lockhart Post-Register. Moments like that have helped me realize the impact of visual storytelling in a real community.
Lastly, I want to thank all of my clients who have trusted me to capture their moments. Being able to take a piece of someone’s life and turn it into a lasting memory is something I don’t take lightly, and I’m grateful for every opportunity.
