Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jason Cherry of Austin

Jason Cherry shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Jason, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
They’re very supportive and believe in my vision.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am J Cherry Music and I provide music related products and services for bass players. My teaching style is what makes me and my brand unique. I simplify what is deemed as complicated topics and concepts in music theory into reels and shorts for all levels of bass players. I don’t believe music theory has to be difficult to learn and I stand by that. I started to gain real traction in early 2025 when several of my reels went viral on Instagram. To further my business beyond social media I launched my online store to the public in July 2025. I sell pdf guides that help bass players learn and understand the fundamentals of harmony in major and minor keys. I plan to keep creating and adding products to my online store, so be on the lookout for what’s to come. I also give one on one bass lesson via video call for students looking for private lessons.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents always provided an environment for me to be myself which was practicing music day in and day out. I have to shoutout my caring parents! Also, I would like to shoutout my bass mentor Delvin George (RIP)! He saw my talent and ambition at a very young age and provided guidance and direction at no cost – I’m forever grateful!

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I learned that through all the failures there was something to gain because I made an attempt. You have to trust the process and be consistent through it all, and that’s the hardest part – doing it even when you don’t feel like it!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
100%. My social media accounts is my digital resume. I believe people follow and subscribe to my pages due to my authenticity!

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
I would definitely regret not making attempts at what I believe-in, and also what adds value to society. My brand and legacy has been impactful already thus far. I receive DMs almost everyday from musicians around the world, which I help them solve their musical issues. I would totally regret not following my purpose because it’s not only important for me and my nuclear family, but it’s important for society.
