We recently had the chance to connect with Natalie Forget and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Lately, I’ve been called to face the fear of being seen. As someone who naturally leans introverted, it hasn’t always been easy to put myself out there. But I’ve come to realize how essential connection is, especially in my industry. I’ve been learning to quiet imposter syndrome and step into opportunities with more confidence, building a name for myself one project at a time.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Natalie Forget, and I’m a freelance video editor and creative based in Austin, Texas. I specialize in post-production for a wide range of projects – everything from social media promos and event recaps to cinematic wedding highlight films, music videos, and short films. My work blends technical precision with creative storytelling, using pacing, color grading, and sound design to create edits that feel both visually compelling and emotionally resonant.
In just the past year, I’ve taken the leap into full-time freelance editing, collaborating with some of the best videographers in Austin and contributing to projects for brands like Pop Up Mob x Tree Hut and The Ordinary, Broads App, Phase 6 Fitness, Stick Grips, ManyChat, and more. Beyond commercial work, I’m also building toward a long-term goal of working on films and TV, which fuels my drive to keep learning and honing my craft. I recently edited a short film, “My Big Fat Alien Wedding”, for the 48-Hour Film Project, where the West of Weird Productions team won the “Best Use of Line” award. I look forward to working on more narrative projects.
At the heart of my brand is authenticity. Every project is an opportunity to create something meaningful, and that’s what excites me most about the work I do.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My brother, Gabriel Vazquez—owner of Gabriel Martin Films—has taught me the most about work. He’s one of the most passionate and driven people I know, and an insanely talented videographer. He introduced me to the industry and was the one who first taught me to edit back in June 2024. I truly owe my career and newfound passion to him, not only for what he’s taught me but also for the opportunities he’s opened up. I continue to learn from him every day.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There was never a point when I wanted to give up on editing, but there were times when I needed to take on part-time jobs to make ends meet between clients. I’m grateful to now be in a position where that’s a choice rather than a necessity.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
The biggest truth I carry with me is that everything happens for a reason. I genuinely believe our paths unfold the way they’re meant to, and that every experience has been a lesson that has shaped me into who I am today.
And, lowkey, I kind of believe we live in a simulation… but that’s a conversation for another time.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as brave, tenacious, and driven – someone who trusted in the Universe even when the path wasn’t always clear. I want to be seen as someone who faced fear head-on, pursued her passions wholeheartedly, and stayed resilient in the face of challenges.
Beyond that, I hope the creative works I leave behind speak for themselves. My goal has always been to create projects that resonate deeply, spark emotion, and inspire others to see the world in a different light.
Ultimately, I’d like to be remembered not only for my creativity but for my courage to keep moving forward and my belief that everything unfolds the way it’s meant to.
