Life & Work with Angel Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Davis.

Hi Angel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
It all started at an interview for a retail associate and I left with the position of a Counter Manager for Esteé Lauder. Who would’ve guessed that I would be doing makeup and not folding clothes which is what I had anticipated doing for a temporary amount of time. Shortly after I met my Fiancée and decided to relocate to Austin Texas from Lufkin Texas. I tried to transfer my position to the department store here but the pay was frightening acknowledging the fact that the cost of living in Austin was almost three times more than where I was relocating from. I moved to Austin and worked several jobs to bring about income for my family. However, I didn’t enjoy them half as much as I did do makeup and being in the beauty industry.

So, I decided to freelance on my own time which escalated quickly to doing makeup for client’s full time. While I held my most recent position as an administrative assistant. I was contacted and advised that due to the ongoing pandemic I would have to be let go as they could no longer afford to facilitate my position. I was terrified and left without a job. While times were extremely rough, I refused to give up. I stayed the course; I continued to practice and also invest in my craft. I began to accept small gigs and promote my small business and people just began to support. I am still overwhelmed with the support and clientele that I am growing, I cannot wait to see what the future holds for myself and my business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been one bit of easy as my business was forced to manifest throughout the ongoing pandemic. I initially was diagnosed with COVID-19. I was then very afraid to operate my business as I am required to be in direct distance with clients and not really knowing much about COVID-19 but wanting to stay safe while also keeping my clients and family safe. I was limited on the number of things I could do but my clientele were also as everything and event has been placed on hold. There were no parties, weddings, photo shoots, graduations or much of any reason to remove out masks especially for makeup.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a freelance makeup artist that wholeheartedly loves enhancing your natural beauty while also enhancing confidence. I believe the most rewarding portion of my job is not only making others feel better about themselves but seeing a change and the awe on their face when I have completed my work. I specialize in flawless makeup application and pride myself on the creativity and capability to make and or recreate my client’s vision and bring it to life once they have shared them with me.

What makes you happy?
Seeing my clients smile and telling me how I met or exceeded their expectations brings me pure joy!
