Life & Work with April Lambert of Northwest Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Lambert.

April Lambert

Hi April, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I always had a passion for sports and athletics growing up. After a few years in the corporate world and as a means of staying active after having my son, I threw myself into all sorts of group fitness. When it comes to fitness and working out, there isn’t much I haven’t done. After moving to Austin in 2011, I pursued and earned my NASM personal trainer’s certification and began personal training and teaching small-group fitness classes. After spending several years doing HIIT workouts, I began to feel the toll it was having on my body and was looking for something that would challenge me but also be low-impact. A friend recommended that I try Lagree Fitness and it was then that I found TLSx! That was THE BEST thing that happened to me both in my fitness and professional life. I fell in love! I became certified to teach the Lagree method in 2017 and began teaching at TLSx shortly after. This fitness modality never ceases to amaze me. It is the one thing that I have done consistently for the past 7 years that constantly challenges me mentally and physically. There are no plateaus and that’s the thing I love about it the most – consistently challenging and ever-evolving! I began my TLSx career teaching as an instructor, and over the last few years, I have grown my career to be the lead programmer and current Director of Fitness & Training.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing good ever comes easy! I’ve faced some personal struggles along the way, but found that being able to pour into others made whatever obstacles and challenges I was facing easier to deal with. I think that having the ability to move my body physically each day, not just exercising itself, but leading a class environment…I really have to get out of my own head and any internal struggles to be able to provide a top-notch experience to my clients. And that’s truly what it has always been about for me. I want my clients to leave the class feeling better than they came in. On my worst days, my motto is always that it’s my “job” to give them the best 45-minutes of their day. And, not surprisingly, the day continues a little brighter and I end up reaping as many rewards as I’m trying to provide. It’s a win-win!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
When you come to my class you’re guaranteed a form-focused flow that will have you feeling strong and accomplished when you walk out of the studio. I’m known for top-notch cueing and very technical coaching. I consider it my job to ensure each client is not just doing the workout but learning the why behind each move. My classes challenge you effectively to your deepest core both mentally and physically. I take great pride in having packed and waitlisted classes all week at each studio I teach at and I continually strive to bring the best energy and enthusiasm possible day-by-day, class-to-class! Come hang with me for 45-minutes and I’ll be your Number One Hype Girl! As the lead programmer for all 3 (soon to be 4!) TLSx studios, I tailor create and design each workout, every day. Each day is not only a different routine, but it is customized to the people in the class for the most effective workout possible. These Pilates-inspired HIIT workouts are intense but have low to no impact making them easy on the body. These are the important attributes that set me and TLSx apart from other studios and instructors!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I love listening to Jay Shetty’s podcast, On Purpose. And the Mel Robbins podcast. Both podcasts are always easy listening and I learn something new about myself every time! Since my career is so focused on the body and movement, I work to keep myself up-to-date and current on body mechanics and continuing my education on functional movement and corrective exercise. The folks that lead the Instagram page, MoveU, make this so much fun. And I find that they are an endless resource to keeping my teaching and instruction current and on-point.
