Life & Work with Arthea Henderson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthea Henderson.

Hi Arthea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I originally moved to Texas from Missouri in 2013 due to job relocation. I was working as a Supervisor for a call center and quickly realized that this job is not for me. It took a about a year or so before I chose to move on and pursue my manicurist’s license! It was the best decision I had ever made. I was very proud of myself for accomplishing a goal I never thought I could. I have worked as a nail technician for at least five years plus. However, I am person constantly on a path to elevate and to try different things. I knew starting my career in the nail industry that it was not something I wanted to do for a lifetime.

During my tenure, I found a passion for listening and learning more about my clients and their life. I began to find so much inspiration in listening to women who had started a business or were looking to start a business and transition out of the corporate world. I wasn’t sure what I could do with this inspiration until the pandemic hit and I was no longer working, I remember having a conversation with a friend who suggested that I should have my own podcast. I started to flirt with the idea of having my own podcast for about two years before it came to life. During those two years, a friend and I decided that we would start a podcast together based on conversations we had together regarding past traumas, healing, self-love, and relating to others on a real level.

Once I got a taste of recording, I decided while we were on hiatus to start my own podcast! What influenced the concept of my podcast was mainly the pandemic and how there were so many black owned businesses being birthed amongst all of the of the police brutality, protesting for justice, and increased racism. I remember my feelings of heartache, defeat, and tears having to stand by and watch and wanting to contribute. I knew I wanted to make a difference by being a part of bridging a gap during the pandemic by starting my own podcast. My RICH Friends podcast is a platform I have created to really showcase black entrepreneurs who have inspiring stories and who want to share how they started a business, what that looks like prior and during the pandemic all while giving advice to other black entrepreneurs on how to get started. I named my podcast “My RICH Friends” because I realized I was either friends with or knew a lot of people who are Real, Intelligent, Creative, Hard-working people and I am a huge supporter of friends and others I truly believe in and I wanted to introduce “My RICH Friends” to the world to celebrate their accomplishments and everything they have done to overcome adversity while doing so.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One challenge I experienced was finding a career based on my real passion. When you don’t know where you headed it is extremely hard to stay focused on one thing. I struggled with what others opinions of my life were and what others thought of me. While I feel as though I am woman of many talents, some things don’t always make me feel as though I am making a real difference in the world. I don’t think anything worth having will be a smooth ride but looking back it was the bumps that shaped me and gave me the confidence to do what I love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a digital creator who has recently transitioned into creating a podcast. I am most proud of starting my podcast that I feel will make a real difference for others. What I believe sets me a part from others is I am constantly looking for ways to evolve as a person and in life. I am always finding ways to become a better individual so that I can be an inspiration for others to become better versions of themselves. I am known for being funny, hardworking, supportive, and creative.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Others can support me by taking a listen to my podcast My Rich Friends which will be launching in April on Anchor FM and all platforms!
