Life & Work with Benjamin Elijah of Georgetown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Elijah.

Hi Benjamin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into barbering started way before I ever called it a career. At six years old, my dad was cutting my hair with clippers in one hand and zero concern for clean lines—uneven cuts, nicked ears, and somehow I always walked away happy. That’s where I learned early that a haircut isn’t just about hair; it’s about the experience.

By ten, the barbershop became my classroom, comedy club, and hangout all in one. When life shifted at twelve, cutting my own hair became survival—and without realizing it, I was building a skill that would eventually become my future. Years later, after long days as a lawn technician and missing too much time with my kids, it finally clicked that I’d been practicing my next move my whole life. With the steady support of my wife, I committed fully to the craft, went to cosmetology school and graduated in 8 months.
Now, working independently in my private suite in Georgetown, Texas, February 2026 will mark four years as a professional, one year as a suite owner, and I’m still a little amazed at how far a skill I picked up as a kid has taken me—and I’m just getting started.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Entering a new profession as a Husband with three young children would have been challenging under any circumstances—but doing so in 2020 felt especially daunting. The world was tense, uncertain, and reshaped by a viral illness that affected lives across the globe. Fear and unpredictability became part of everyday life, and stability felt fragile.

Working in a field that required constant interaction with others meant facing that fear head-on. Questions filled the air—about safety, about the future, and even about reality itself. While some people wore masks unsure of how much protection they truly offered, others questioned whether the threat was real at all. The division, the anxiety, and the unknown made every day feel heavy.

There were moments when doubt crept in. I wondered if I had taken a risk on a career that might not survive such a turbulent time. But looking back now, that period taught me resilience. What once felt overwhelming became proof of perseverance. The world moved forward, the uncertainty eased, and so did my confidence. What began in fear ultimately became a foundation for growth.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At the core of my work as a cosmetologist is creativity, connection, and attention to detail. I specialize in hair color and perms, taking pride in perfecting even the smallest elements—details that never go unnoticed and make each result truly personal.

I’m known for creating a customized experience for every client, from complimentary beverages to their choice of music. My goal is to make each appointment feel comfortable, intentional, and tailored to the individual.

What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me. What sets me apart isn’t just what I do, but how I do it—by combining skill, care, and detail to create an experience clients remember long after they leave my chair.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was an interesting mix of quiet and outgoing. I was personable and friendly, but I also valued time alone and enjoyed getting to know myself. I loved having friends, yet I was just as comfortable exploring my own thoughts and interests.

I was always curious—constantly breaking things down and rebuilding them just to understand how they worked. That curiosity became essential to who I am today. I also never met a stranger; I had a natural way of making people feel comfortable and seen, and I’ve always had a strong sense of connection with others.

Music played a major role in my life as well. I grew up with a deep love for it and discovered early on that I had a gift for singing and songwriting. It became another way for me to express myself and connect with people on a deeper level.

I was rarely indoors—I practically lived outside, always moving, exploring, and experiencing life. Looking back, I’ve always felt that people were drawn to me, and those early interests and traits still shape who I am today.
