Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryson Tucker
Hi Bryson , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from Caldwell, Texas, and I’ve played sports my entire life. I attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where I majored in Sports Management and played college football. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and a minor in Organizational Management. I was also named 1st Team All-American as both a safety and as a running back/kick returner, which is unique because I’m not sure it’s ever been done before to be 1st Team All-American on both sides of the ball.
After college, I played arena football in Green Bay in 2011, and then signed with the Calgary Stampeders in the CFL in 2012. Unfortunately, I was released after the first preseason game, which, though unexpected, started my business journey sooner than planned. While still pursuing opportunities in the CFL, I launched my brand, Sacrifice Apparel, and began selling shirts while working as a personal trainer at Gold’s Gym. The brand grew, and I seized an opportunity to rent space within another business, allowing me to step away from the corporate world and start on my own.
I spent about 18 months at Gold’s Gym, where I learned a lot and met many great people who remain friends and clients to this day. Now we have clients who are so committed to our vision that they drive 2 to 3 hours three days a week or even fly in to train and learn with us. When I opened Sacrifice Training as my first solo venture, I only had one client. I would get up early, workout at 5 AM, and schedule my day as if I already had a full client list, believing that to build the life I wanted, I needed to live it first.
The business expanded to the point where our initial location could no longer accommodate us. I then bought 2 acres of land with an existing structure and began clearing the property while still operating out of our first site. There were no breaks; during our “downtime,” my colleague Eric and I would work on the new property. Eric, who is not only a great friend but also my college teammate and roommate, is now the Facility Director and my right-hand man. We’ve grown tremendously over the years, not just economically but also in our community relationships in Central Texas.
It’s been a remarkable journey, and I say this humbly because none of this would have been possible without the support of my wife, Eric, our clients, and, most importantly, God.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Struggles were primarily about the unknown: not knowing how to properly forecast cash flow, learning business trends on the go in a new industry, navigating local government jurisdictions and codes, and managing everything that comes with owning a brick-and-mortar establishment. Owning both the land and the building presents a different set of challenges compared to leasing. There’s a lot of management involved that has nothing to do with “training clients.” Essentially, you dive in, learn as you go, and there’s no real way to be fully prepared. Learning to say “No” is an undervalued skill for business owners, and it’s not as straightforward as one might think.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re known for speed training, making athletes faster, whether they’re young athletes developing or professionals seeking performance consulting. While we’re widely recognized for speed, we cover all aspects of human performance and rehabilitation. What we do is a science, but the real distinction comes from the art of dosage and timing—knowing when to do things, when not to, and how much to do. That intuitive sense and the courage to make decisions at the right moment set us apart. We’ve worked with a diverse group of athletes, from guiding young talents into college sports to coaching at events like the World Championships of Track and Field, where our athletes made the finals. We’ve seen players drafted in the NFL, starters in the CFL, athletes in the WNBA, and even competitive rifle athletes. But I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built; that’s what this is all about. On a personal level, the freedom I’ve created for myself and my staff to dictate how, when, and what we do in our business is invaluable. We’ve cultivated a culture we’re proud of and an ecosystem where we can thrive.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
– Know your purpose.
– Work.
– It’s okay to be afraid, but don’t let fear stop you.
– Work.
– Don’t dwell too much on what could go wrong.
– Work.
– Think about all the things that could go right.
– Work.
– Build a team.
– Work.
Never stop working, be intentional about everything, and remember, it’s okay to tell people no. Establish a culture and fight to keep it.
If I knew everything I know now, I’m not sure we would have taken that leap to be completely honest. That’s why ignorance is bliss and it’s ok to not have all the answers.
And I know this may be a little off topic but your spouse is the biggest decision you can make when it comes to your business success. I can’t thank my wife enough for her confidence in me, her patience, and support. Choose wisely!
