Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecilia Suarez
Hi Cecilia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Calyopi is a dream that has accompanied me all my life and led me to travel around the globe in pursuit of it.
My name is Cecilia, and I took my first steps to fashion freedom in Venezuela, where I created a small clothing brand. From there, I emigrated to Australia and, unfortunately, had to leave this project behind, but kept with me the desire to create unique, attractive, and practical t-shirts. It was a period of self-discovery, of inventing new ways to bring my creativity to life.
I currently live in Austin and here I found the courage to revive my passion. Calyopi was born as a brand for those who also want to rediscover themselves and lift their outfits altogether!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is never easy, and the road has certainly had its bumps. For me, the hardest part was taking that first step. Fear often crept in and stopped me from pursuing things I love, but once I conducted thorough research on the market and grew confident in my products, that fear started to fade. As I always say: ‘If you’re afraid, do it afraid—but do it.’ Otherwise, you’ll never know what could have been.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I studied Business Administration in Venezuela, where I first ventured into fashion by creating a small clothing brand. After moving to Australia, I had to reinvent myself and earned a diploma in Interior Design, further fueling my passion for creativity. Despite leaving my initial project behind, I carried with me the desire to design unique and practical t-shirts.
Living in Austin, I’ve revived that passion, and Calyopi was born. What sets us apart is the fusion of style and practicality, crafted for women who, like me, are rediscovering themselves. I’m most proud of how Calyopi connects with women who want to elevate their outfits while embracing their personal journeys. It’s more than just fashion; it’s about empowerment, confidence, and transformation through simplicity and beauty.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see the fashion industry moving toward greater sustainability, personalization, and inclusivity. Customers are becoming more conscious of the environmental impact of their clothing choices, so there will be a growing demand for eco-friendly materials and ethical production practices. Additionally, technology will likely play a bigger role in fashion, with trends like virtual try-ons and customization becoming more popular. I believe brands that focus on authenticity and making meaningful connections with their customers will thrive in this evolving landscape.
