Life & Work with Cheyenne Morris of Austin, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Morris

Hi Cheyenne, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, my Dad was ALWAYS taking photos. We traveled a lot so we joked that we were always the obvious tourists because we were always being summoned for a photo op. Fast forward to when I became a Mom and found myself wanting to document everything I possibly could about their childhood: their freckles, their baby toes, their scrunched up nose when they laugh, their first solid foods (you get the idea). I realized the importance of documenting your life and loved ones because our lives are a revolving door of seasons. This is where my love of family photography began and it has evolved into a combination of family + commercial photography

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think anyone’s road is completely smooth when they start a business but that’s part of the journey, right?

Learning how to start and sustain a business is hard in the best of circumstances but doing it while you’re also a mom is just a different kind of hard because figuring out how to balance business and motherhood is a constant struggle.

I was beginning my business right around when COVID started so that certainly derailed things when people weren’t really comfortable getting too close to each other.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m predominantly a family and brand photographer. The two are completely different but I love it because I get to use different elements of creativity with both.

In family photography- I think I’m most proud of my ability to stand back and watch for those perfect moments to capture. So, for families, I just want to capture the genuine connection- and when I do- it’s pure magic.

What matters most to you? Why?
Connection is what matters most to me.

I want to photograph connection within a family unit. It’s such a beautiful thing when you can see the connection and love of a family in photos that it’s almost tangible. That is such a gift to be able to give people.

I want to create a connection between a brand and its audience.
