Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Cary.
Hi Claire, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved food and cooking. I loved to bake when I was young, but in high school and college, I really struggled with disordered and restricted eating.
Food seemed to consume every aspect of my life and I was constantly focused on my weight, body and every single thing I put into it. After years of mystery symptoms and dozens of trips to dozens of doctors, I was eventually diagnosed with Celiac Disease in early 2020. My health issues and ultimate Celiac diagnosis really forced me to view food and my body in a very different light. I started my blog to help inspire others to get back into the kitchen and put thought and care into what goes into their bodies because I know what a profound effect that can have on your life.
After a lot of trial and error in the kitchen, I finally made it my mission to prove gluten-free recipes can be just as good as the real stuff. Seriously, try my chocolate cupcakes if you’re skeptical! I believe food (and of course eating!) is one of life’s greatest pleasures and can make you feel amazing without sacrificing taste. Eat With Clarity is a place for simple, gluten-free recipes that are designed to taste as good as they make you feel.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been easy to get to where I am now, both in terms of my health and my business in general. I had no intention of becoming a full-time recipe developer and photographer, but it kind of just happened that way. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes of running a food blog, so learning to navigate such a new territory was both intimidating and really exciting. It took a while to get the foundations of the business set up and learn how to manage finances, social media, recipe creation, SEO, site design, etc. I’m so grateful to have had the guidance from other successful food bloggers along the way!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I tell people I’m a food blogger, but there are many parts to what I do. I specialize in gluten-free recipe development and photography as well as videography. I am known for having simple and easy to follow recipes that truly taste just as good as the gluten-filled versions! Food blogging is a pretty saturated market, but I put so much love and care into each and every recipe to ensure it works perfectly in any reader’s kitchen. My recipes are all full of flavor and incredibly easy to make.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Tenacity! Both with the recipe development process and running a business as a whole. In my early days of food blogging, I was reaching only a very small audience and it took over a year before I saw any payoff from the work I was putting in. There were so many days where I questioned whether or not I’d be able to reach my goals, but I’m truly so proud of how far I have come. When it comes to developing recipes, it can take upwards of 15 tries before I’m satisfied with the final product, which can be incredibly frustrating. You definitely have to fail to succeed in this industry!
