

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Arini.
Hi Daniela , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and at a very early age discovered my passion for baking . After graduating from a well known Pastry school in 2002, I started working at 5-star hotels, such as the Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida, and The Phoenician in Scottsdale, Arizona. I also worked as a Pastry Chef in New York City for a Top Chef Celebrity , David Burke. I had the opportunity to create cakes for Dubai royalties, the Obamas ( it was a Tiffany Box cake for his sister’s birthday ) , and other notable dignitaries.
In 2011, after having my son Lucas, I decided to change course and finally pursue her dream of owning her own business. Glacé Cakes – New York was then born. I wanted my cakes to taste just as delicious as my desserts did when I worked as a Pastry Chef. It took time to develop the recipes and find the perfect combination of moist cakes and creamy fillings.
In 2016, after having my business for 5 years in NYC, we decided to move to Austin. I had to restart my business from scratch and I faced numerous challenges to achieve the same success I had in NYC. Back then, the food culture in Austin was not on the same level than in NY, so it took awhile until clients understood what we were about, and how different our cakes were made. But after a few years, we got Voted Best cakes in Austin, and I can say that we are not only as successful as we were in NYC, but probably even more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are specialized in Artistic Delicious Cakes. Our cakes are as delicious as a dessert you get in a restaurant and designed with an artistic point of view. Usually you can either find a delicious cake that looks blah, or you can find a cake that is really pretty but no one wants to eat it because it’s dry and overly sweet. Our cakes are pretty AND tasty ! It’s a very rare combination in the industry.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I am on the conservative side of risk taking ( probably the only conservative bone in me ) I am very pragmatic when it comes to budget and business structure. So I guess I reserve the risk taking to the designs and flavors pairings.
