Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Cherry Crush
Hi DJ Cherry, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I moved to Austin 10 years ago and have enjoyed building my own little community. After college I wanted to continue to pursue creative outlets and started djing as a hobby. It’s become the perfect way to express myself and collaborate with other creatives which I enjoy doing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s always struggles, and it’s been difficult to balance my professional career with my creative one. I think the challenges make it more worth while tho, and djing has become a way for me to de-stress and have fun!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m definitely recognized for my smooth transitions, ability to make people want to dance, and of course, a cherry. It started out as a joke between my friends and I, because I always asked for maraschinos in my drinks. It turned into the perfect dj handle and how i’ll continue to brand myself creatively.
What matters most to you?
Community matters a lot to me. Friendship, family, and our ability to bond with one another. I have such a strong connection between music and community. Some of my strongest bonds have been built over our love for music. Which is also a major inspiration for me as a dj.
