Life & Work with DJ VALA of Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ VALA

Hi DJ, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up my family was less fortunate. Got evicted from our first home. I saw the struggle my parents went through just so me and my siblings could put food on the table. As early as I can remember I always wanted to help my parents financially. At the age of 13 I would walk around my neighborhood pushing my dads lawnmower, knocking on doors hoping someone would let me mow their lawn for a few bucks. As I got older, to the age where I could finally get a job. I couldn’t, I was born in Mexico so I grew up without a social security number. I couldn’t get a job to help my parents. My aunt used to date a DJ when I was 14 y/0. He would take me with him to his gigs, I would help him set up and tear down the speakers & lights at quinceaneras and weddings. I was with him enough to fall in love with what he did. Making people dance, laugh, simply have a great time. I knew then that I wanted to become a DJ. At the age of 15 I became DJ Vala.

Fast forward 13 years. I am 28 now, bought my first home solely off of my DJ career. I have DJ’d the biggest nightclubs around Texas. My main goal now as a DJ is to get out of Texas. Currently right now as I am typing this I am in Las Vegas, pursuing my career, networking, trying to land a residency. My ultimate dream is to see my face here in the beautiful Las Vegas billboards. The first time I ever came to Las Vegas to celebrate my 21st birthday. I saw a DJ’s billboard and said to myself. That will be me one day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think like any career, there’s always ups and downs. The biggest struggle is fighting when I’m down. However, I always keep my faith in God, knowing that it will always get better.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a DJ, I think what I’m most proud of is being where I am today. What sets me apart from other DJs I feel is my unique style and the way I market myself.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My free time with my family and loved ones. I work A LOT, and my hours are not the norm. So when I have time to be with my loved ones I cherish it to the maximum.
