Today we’d like to introduce you to James Victore
Hi James, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story and my obstacles and challenges.
I was born to do my job to do this job. Born to be an artist and designer and write about my experience.
I was born wildly creative, full of wordplay and drawing on everything as a kid I was called creative and it wasn’t a compliment, but to hold onto that creativity through grade school in high school is not easy when you’re from a small town and there are no precedents of artists to follow.
So, how do you hang on to your weirdness and your child like sense of play despite all the signs that tell you to stop being… TOO.
You know…. too loud, too too shy, too fat, too young, too old, too stupid. too much.. Just TOO.
As a kid I was full of joy and play and sing song and jokes and I drew constantly and on everything—my clothes, my books, myself and none of these were appreciated at home or school. I can easily look back And see all the all the times when my creativity was rejected. When my weirdness was not accepted. When I was shut down
And here is the big point, I was not some feral child found in the woods who screams at dinner guests. I was a kid being a kid and I was not allowed to be me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
These are the challenges for a creative soul today.Trying to just be yourself, allowing that creative freedom.
I was smart or crazy enough to hold on to that play and creative spirit. Even after I was thrown out of my art school in New York. I started working professionally three weeks later and have been busy and supporting myself as an artist and designer ever since.
I believe we are all born wildly creative—some of us just forgot. It’s not just a few of us who are talented or gifted.
A big part of what I do today is help other creatives get paid to do what they love.
