Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet St. Paul.
Hi Janet, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began with a vision to bring the refinement and artistry of New York City hairdressing to Austin, infused with a genuine spirit of connection and care. After nearly two decades of experience in Manhattan’s top salons, I followed an inner calling to create a space where beauty, artistry, and authenticity come together.
As the owner and founder of the award-winning Janet St. Paul Studio for Hair & Beauty in Austin, TX, and a master stylist with 35 years of experience, my career began in New York City, where I worked in prestigious salons including Frédéric Fekkai and Butterfly Studio. My background includes collaborations with designers such as Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta, styling celebrities like Diane Sawyer and Martha Stewart, and contributing to New York Fashion Week.
In 2011, I brought my world-class experience to Austin and opened a studio that has since become a nationally recognized destination for luxury service and advanced education. The studio is also proud to be the U.S. flagship salon for PHYTO Paris, serving as a professional education destination.
Our team is built on excellence, mentorship, and heart, offering guests an elevated experience that honors both craft and care. Everything we do is rooted in the belief that true beauty begins with intention, integrity, and the kindness that makes people feel at home the moment they walk through our doors.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path to creating something lasting and meaningful is never without its challenges. We’ve navigated growth through economic shifts, a pandemic, and the ever-evolving demands of the beauty industry. Yet one of our most defining chapters came when I faced significant health challenges following a large toxic mold exposure. That experience called our entire team into deeper unity, leading with love, strength, and grace through uncertainty. It reminded us that true leadership is not just about achieving excellence but embodying resilience, compassion, and care for one another. Through this season, we strengthened our foundation and redefined success as wholeness supporting each other physically, emotionally, and creatively.
As I continue to heal, I’m passionate about sharing my journey and the knowledge I’ve gained along the way about wellness, resilience, and the connection between inner and outer beauty. These insights will soon be shared on our social platforms and the Janet St. Paul Studio blog, with the hope that they inspire others to prioritize their health, balance, and self-care as an essential part of their beauty journey.
Every challenge has reaffirmed our purpose: to serve with excellence, stay grounded in gratitude, and build a salon culture rooted in mastery, humanity, and heart.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Janet St. Paul Studio for Hair & Beauty, we specialize in precision hair design, luxury color, and restorative scalp and hair treatments rooted in European and New York techniques. Our partnerships with PHYTO Paris, Milbon, and L’Oréal Professionnel reflect our dedication to clean, high-performance beauty that truly supports the health of the hair and scalp. What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to education. We’re proud to have been honored as one of Salon Today’s Top 200 Salons in North America, a recognition that celebrates our ongoing excellence in service, innovation, and education. Our Masters Program provides an immersive training experience that cultivates both technical mastery and a service first mindset, empowering stylists to elevate their craft while honoring the guest experience.
We’re most proud of the transformations we create, not just in how someone looks, but in how they feel. Our goal is for every client to leave feeling seen, valued, and confident with a cut and color that are as wearable and effortless at home as they are beautiful in the salon. To us, great hair should make people feel radiant, capable, and authentically themselves.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We believe the future of the beauty industry lies in consciousness where innovation, wellness, and sustainability work hand in hand with artistry. The next decade will bring a deeper connection between beauty and well-being, with more clients seeking authentic, personalized care and meaningful experiences. As technology continues to evolve, we see opportunities to enhance education and connection while keeping the irreplaceable essence of our craft—human touch, presence, and trust. Our mission is to lead with intention, helping redefine what it means to experience luxury and service in a modern, mindful world.
