Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Eyre.
Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a curly hair specialist of 10+ years, that works exclusively with wavy, curly & coily hair. I discovered that you could specialize in curly hair while attending Cosmetology school in Austin, TX. This was a pivotal moment. As a curly girl myself, the struggles to care for my curls was nothing short of frustrating because for decades, there wasn’t any real concrete haircare for curly hair. It was something to be “fixed” and essentially straightened. As a teenager, when your confidence is critical, especially with your hair, it can have a lasting, deep-rooted effect on your self-esteem, which is why becoming a curly hair specialist hit my heart & soul.
Upon my decision to specialize, I hit the ground running learning as much as possible on how to cut and care for curly hair. I have traveled the country to learn from the best so I could give them the best, Any client who sits in my chair, it is my curly duty to make sure they love their wavy, curly & coily hair. Cutting techniques (I cut curls dry in their natural state) and curly haircare has been a game changer for the curly community. It has grown by leaps and bounds. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to share my passion of curly care with my community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, my career has been a smooth journey, but the number one challenge was overcoming my anxiety in satisfying everyone’s expectations. One thing I’ve learned is never to assume anything and to clarify by asking questions so my clients and I are on the same page. They need to be listened to and I understand this. They will tell you scary, curly stories from childhood and beyond. I get it. Trust is a big deal.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a curly hair specialist, and I am most proud of what I have achieved, catering to the understandably, sensitive curly hair population. I think what might set me apart, is my patience and willingness to listen to my clients. I’ve been in their shoes and therefore, we connect.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was a sensitive and empathetic person as I grew up. I took most things to heart and felt deeply. I believe this is in part to my loving parents and my own insecurities. I always wanted everyone to feel accepted. I really enjoyed and was grateful for the adventure my childhood brought whether it was visiting the mountains, swim team or hanging out with friends.
