Life & Work with Jim Huntington of Coupland,TX 78615

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Huntington.

Jim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Huntington Sculpture Foundation was established as a 501 C 3 (Public Museum) nearly 20 years ago.
It includes well over 100 large-scale sculptures in stone and stone combined with stainless or copper, plus numerous smaller sculptures in both garden and studio building available to the public by voluntary contribution 24/7/365. The studio also includes 9″x 12″ folios of drawings dating from 2000 to the present. This is all the work of Jim Huntington born 1941 in Elkhart, IN., who moved to Coupland, TX in 1994.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle is location and disseminating awareness of what is available so close to Austin. The public response from most of those who visit is both astonishment and appreciation

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have work in the collections of the Whitney Museum, NYC, Grounds For Sculpture in N.J and Stormking Art Center, Mountainville, NY and 3 large-scale public sculptures in Lincoln, NE plus works numerous private collections. There are commissioned sculptures in Santa Rosa, CA and Kansai Gaidai Language University in Osaka, Japan.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
