Life & Work with Jodeci Florvil of Austin/Killeen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodeci Florvil

Hi Jodeci , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My story is more about how an encounter with God change the way I do music. I’ve been on the music scene for some since years 2010 2011. I started out with local labels like purple city production, recorded some music with other locals like DDI, Spit Shine Studio’s, beat kitchen and other great spots. Back in 2011 I was doing secular rap with some local artists while still in high school. Then in 2012 I had an encounter with God that would change my whole life. Then I met Christopher Matthews, a.k.a. yung priest. And I’ve been rapping CHH (Christian hip-hop)ever since. We’ve been on the Austin scene pushing away the normal narrative. And bringing more light to the city. Christian hip-hop lives in Austin.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Back before I ever started doing music, of course we all have our own problems that we all have to fight. Mines was gangs and drugs. So I would mix my lifestyle into the secular music. Being a single mother, raising an only child my mother wasn’t always able to keep her eyes on me. And those times I would take the opportunity to engage into the street life. During those times I lost a few close friends to gang related and drug related activities.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Christian hip-hop artist from the city of Austin, Texas where live music thrives. In my motive, Christian hip-hop I tell a lot of stories and testimonies of how I was able to endure the street life and how I feel God was able to bring me out of it. I share my testimony in music and also in every opportunity that I am able.. what makes my music different is the authenticity of it and the fact that I’m able to be very vulnerable and a platform that captures ears when the beats starts playing. Me being able to craft a great song that brings great vibes while also giving others a word of encouragement and testifying about my life is what keeps me going.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
To be honest, I see myself in the next 5 to 10 years doing ministry. In any opportunity meaning hip-hop spoken, word, dance, preaching, or whatever talent I have to use. Me and the artist, Chris Matthews, a.k.a. Yung Priest are working on a joint album right now as we speak. We also are in a rap group called Spirit life. We also play a pivotal part in the local movement that comes to bring light to the city of Austin called CHH Austin. Lay by local artist, J-Nice the Kingdom Builder and Big Ro music of vision 2 life media. Our vision is to bring good music to Austin while glorifying God at the same time.
