Life & Work with Julia Rumbarger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Rumbarger.

Hi Julia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been an artist; I grew up painting/drawing. I started painting my own nails when I was 14 after watching YouTube videos for DIY manicures. I just kinda never stopped after that. I went to beauty school right after high school and then started working in a local salon where I gained most of my experience. I stayed there for four years, then in February 2022 I went solo and opened my own studio, ‘2 Good Hands Texas’ and that’s where I am currently.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not. I was awful at working on clients, managing time, maintaining conversation. I think the biggest learning curve for me was probably learning how to be assertive in a professional manner. You’ll definitely deal with people that try to take advantage of you, and it’s awkward having to sit there with somebody who’s rude or rubbing you the wrong way, etc. Then when I went on my own, the obstacles shifted to doing everything by yourself; I don’t have to go through anyone to make any decisions now. You really have to be self-motivated and disciplined.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I hand paint all my work. I don’t use any stickers or decals, foils, etc. I just prefer to paint it all. I offer a service called a ‘freestyle’. Which is exactly what it sounds like, I just come up with something at appointment time. Freestyles are fairly popular I would say, I think it takes the stress of decision-making away from the client and it offers me creative freedom. I put out some of my best work that way too I think.
