Life & Work with Justine Ong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justine Ong.

Hi Justine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
LIPSTICK ADVENTURES started years ago when I worked as an executive in the Beauty Industry. I was able to travel for work to different cities where I took advantage of exploring a whole new landscape trying to find the best food and some great local hot spots. I had endless photos in my photo album, that I decided during the pandemic to start posting a bit more on the Instagram platform. It was a creative outlet that allowed me to enjoy making posts that were optimistic despite what is still going on in the world today. One of the great things I’ve found through being more active on connecting through social media is the community that is built around it in my local presence in Austin, TX. Being a California transplant, it’s hard to connect with new people especially during such sensitive times due to the pandemic. My page has really allowed me to create content that I’m proud of and at the same time foster and build new friendships.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Committing to taking my page more seriously was definitely not an easy road. For those who started with me on my journey in November 2020, I had my page set to a “Daily Blogger of Fun” which I quickly realized was not sustainable with a full-time job, a relationship, and a new puppy. I believe in balance, and sometimes when you’re taking IG a bit more seriously, you don’t take the time to fully appreciate the new city you’re in or the food you’re looking to enjoy. I’ve learned to set boundaries on not attending every single event despite F.O.M.O, putting time limits to how much time I would commit to IG a week, and of course, make sure I was still enjoying meals and travels like I used to before I made it a priority to post about it on my feed. My most recent motto has been, “If it’s not fun, don’t do it!”-and I’m definitely the type of girl that wants to make the most fun of everything I do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I mentioned that I previously worked in Education and Sales within the Beauty industry, and that was a huge passion of mine for a while before I moved to Texas. Currently, I’m in the world of the Tech Industry driving Sales and Partnerships. Both professions I believe has given me leverage when creating content or leveraging my connections on my own personal page. Social Media is about creating connections with people based on similar interests or common end goals, which my whole career has been built on. Outside of professional work, I have a huge passion in giving back to the community. I’m inspired with the reach some Content Creators have to be able to tap into a large audience to influence others to give back and hope that one day my page can be inspiration and have the ability to do so in the future.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a fan of podcasts and books that help you both in your professional and personal relationships as it helps strengthen your overall personal self and product. My favorite books I always recommend have been “Grit” by Angela Duckworth and “Influence; The Power of Persuasion” by Robert B. Cialdini. Both so influential in your daily professional and personal life. An ongoing and daily podcast listen of mine are “The School of Greatness” with Lewis Homes & “Statement Mondays” with Natalie Muenster for business motivation; “On Purpose” with Jay Shetty for Overall Mind Health; and any David Goggins quick tip videos or interviews for body and mind strength. My partner who is a retired boxer always shares, “When the body is weak, the mind is weak. When the mind is weak, the body is weak.” and it’s so true. One must both strengthen both parts to live a fulfilling, healthy, and most importantly, happy life.
