Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Serra
Hi Katy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I opened my business in March 2014 and that same year I started photographing all kinds of sessions. I opened myself to shooting engagements, bridals, baby sessions, families, and weddings. I fell in love with wedding photography and I knew that it is what I wanted to do. Photography has opened the doors for me to meet so many different people, to travel to different places, and hone my experience as a wedding photographer. I have traveled all over Texas with the exception of the pan handle. I started shooting alone, and I brought my husband on board to help me as a second shooter, unfortunately in 2018 he was unable to help me after a knee injury. However my younger sister started assisting me since she was 15 years old, and I am happy to say that now that she has become my trustee second shooter for a couple of years now. She is incredible and I am so blessed to have her on my team.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not a smooth road. My path has had challenges specially during covid. 12 weddings got postponed or canceled due to the quarantine. However, that did not stop me from following my dream. Since then, I have had the opportunity to photograph alongside other great photographers and make connections with them as a second camera, or primary photographer, as well as photographing my own weddings.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been a wedding photographer for the last 10 years, and I have photographed over 200 weddings. I specialize in low light and night time weddings. My style is bright and vibrant, with colors true to life. My business is a family and latina owned business, which I am extremely proud of.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I love to meet up with other wedding vendors to create connections to provide referrals to each other. I also like to attend or host stylized shoots, where I get to meet other photographers as well as other vendors in the wedding industry. Word of mouth is how clients and friends can support me, it goes a long way.
Pricing:
- 300/ hr+ tax (sessions or weddings)
- 400/hr+tax for 2 photographers
