Life & Work with Kiarra Beasley of Los Angeles, California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiarra Beasley

Hi Kiarra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in second grade. A friend from church, who is a professor at Pierce College, asked if I would be interested in being a part of a play. I remember being so excited but at the same time extremely scared. I had never done any sort of acting or live theater before. I had the honor of playing Raynell in August Wilson’s, Fences. The exemplary cast and crew really fueled my love for theater. One of the actors connected me with his commercial agency, and though my parents were hesitant, we reached out to learn more. It wasn’t until two years after my theater debut, that i started in the commercial industry, and on audition two … I booked my first commercial. Since then, you can see me on commercials for brands like GoGurt, Nintendo, Target, Apple, Subaru, Ring Pop and many more. After a couple of years, and a lot of convincing, I decided to make the jump to TV and Film. I had zero idea of what I should be doing in the industry and that terrified me, but after making some friends, and learning a thing or two, the fear started to dissipate. Tv and Film became something I loved, and being on set was something I looked forward to. You can catch me on shows and movies like, Extended Family on Peacock, A Black Lady Sketch Show on HBO Max, S.M.A.S.H on Netflix, Reborn on Hulu, My Swim Instructor Nightmare on Lifetime and lots of others (all linked on my IMDB!). I am also known for my appearances on well known webisodes on channels like Brat TV, Dhar Mann, and Goldiblox. I’ve recently started my own youtube journey (@kiarrabeasleyofficial) posting lifestyle content with my friends and family. Without the support of my family and friends, I would not be where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Long story short, The road has never been smooth. The acting industry is constantly changing and evolving, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up. Things like the Covid-19 pandemic and the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes have completely changed the industry from how we knew it before. My biggest challenge has been my confidence, in the past I’ve relied on trying to compare my journey to the stories told by well known actors, but I know now that no two stories will EVER be the same, so instead I should be proud of myself and the things I’ve accomplished .

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Something I’m most proud of is my platform. Over the years I’ve garnered a fan base of over 60,000 followers. I’m happy that through my hard work, I have a platform that I can use to spread, kindness, love, and God’s word. It really is a dream come true to know that there are people out there that look up to me and listen to the things that I say. Whether it be people I’ve never met coming up to me to take photos, or my little cousins and kids I coach telling me that they saw me on their TV, It feels good to know that I can use my voice to make a change.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I feel like I am a moderate risk taker. A huge risk that really impacted my life would have to be my decision to leave the “traditional” schooling route behind. I had been going to ‘regular’ school my whole life, up until sophomore year. Half way through my sophomore year, I decided to switch over to homeschool. Being a teenage girl is already hard but in the immortal words form Olivia Rodrigo’s ballad of a homeschooled girl, “I’m shocked I’m still alive”. I used to view risks as unnecessary, but now I’m starting to realize that’s just a part of life. My faith and relationship with God have always been important to me. I’m a strong believer that God has a plan for me, and before making any risky decisions I pray and ask God to guide me and give me the wisdom I need to make a sound choice.
