Life & Work with Korri Bindl of Georgetown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Korri Bindl.

Hi Korri, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I first started this mission after picking up a fun summertime, part-time job at our local animal shelter. I quickly became attached to so many of the dogs and truly fell in love with them. Sadly, I saw many pets surrendered simply because families could no longer afford to care for them. Those moments stayed with me. It’s heartbreaking to imagine having to give up a beloved family pet for financial reasons.
At the same time, I noticed the shelter often had extra supplies they didn’t need. I began collecting those items and finding people in our community who could use them. I created a small group to help share and distribute supplies, and before I knew it, the support began to grow. Soon, my front yard was filled with donated dog food, treats, and pet essentials for families in need.
Our community truly stepped up and embraced the mission of keeping families and their pets together. As we continued to grow, it became clear that I could no longer operate out of my home. I searched for a space and, after a lot of effort, was fortunate to find an affordable place to rent.
Today, we operate a full pet food pantry right here in Georgetown, Texas, and now assist over 400 families every month. We are proud to serve not only our local families, but also anyone in surrounding communities who is able to reach us. What started as a small act of compassion has grown into a community-powered mission, and I am incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped make it possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding a permanent location was one of our biggest challenges. Once we secured a space, we were suddenly faced with operational costs and the need to learn how to fundraise as a newly formed nonprofit—all while continuing to serve families who depended on us for support.
In the midst of that, we were gifted a large donation of brand-new supplies from a store that had gone out of business. It included fun items like dog toys, outfits, and accessories—things that aren’t essential, but bring joy. That’s when we had an idea: why not offer these items in exchange for a small donation?
From that moment, our small thrift and “new items” section was born. This program now helps cover our operating expenses and allows us to make emergency food purchases when supplies run low.
At the same time, it has always been important to us that families who cannot afford supplies never go without. We continue to provide essential pet items—such as food and basic care supplies—completely free to those in need. Our mission has always been, and will always be, to support families first and keep pets and people together.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
While the pantry has become a full-time passion and responsibility for me, it is not my full-time paid position. I continue to work full-time at a restaurant where I have been employed for over 10 years. I am incredibly grateful for this career, as it provides the stability that allows me to continue serving our community.
My work there fuels my ability to support the pantry, invest in our mission, and show up every day for the families and pets who depend on us. It allows me to turn compassion into action and continue building something meaningful for our community. I truly believe that this balance is what makes this work possible and keeps my dreams alive.
