Life & Work with Lulu Robles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lulu Robles.

Hi Lulu, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Sure! Music has always been a huge part of my life. Spanish is my native language, but I’ve been speaking English since I was three because of my mom, so both languages have always felt like a big part of who I am. Today, I write and make music in both English and Spanish. For me, music has always been an escape, but also a way to understand myself, express what I’m feeling, and process everything I’m going through.

I started writing songs when I was four years old. At 10, I began taking singing lessons, followed by guitar lessons at 16, and piano and bass lessons at 18. Over the years, music became more than something I enjoyed. It became the way I learned to tell my own story.

I’m mainly inspired by artists like Alanis Morissette, Oasis, Charlotte Cardin, Taylor Swift, and Arctic Monkeys. Their music has influenced the way I approach songwriting and has shown me how powerful it can be to turn personal experiences into something other people can connect with.

My sound falls somewhere between indie pop and indie folk. I write about whatever is happening in my life, whether that’s love, nostalgia, growing up, self-doubt, or the things I’m still trying to figure out.

Of all the music I’ve released so far, “ME.” probably represents me the most. The song is about my experience with anxiety and OCD, and the feeling of constantly questioning whether I’m enough. Writing it allowed me to put those feelings into words and, in a way, remind myself that I’m not alone in them.

I’ve been incredibly lucky to have my music supported by Amazing Radio in both the US and UK, as well as radio stations in Mexico, magazines, and blogs around the world. I’m currently working on my first EP, which I’m planning to release in mid-June next year, and I have some upcoming singles that I’m really excited to share along the way.

At the end of the day, my biggest hope is simple: that someone hears one of my songs and feels understood. If my music can make someone feel a little less alone, then everything I’ve put into it is worth it 🙂

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think one of my biggest struggles has been my mental health. We live in such a digital world where it’s incredibly easy to compare yourself to others, especially as an independent artist. You constantly see people reaching milestones, releasing music, gaining recognition, and it’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind or not doing enough.

Another challenge for me is the pressure I put on myself. I want every song I release to be perfect, to reach people, and to be seen. Sometimes, that pressure can take away from the joy of simply creating music and sharing something that’s meaningful to me.

Finding balance has also been a big part of my journey. My biggest dream is to become a full-time singer-songwriter, but right now, I’m balancing music with two other jobs that provide my main source of income and allow me to continue investing in my music. It’s not always easy to divide my time and energy between everything, especially when music is what I ultimately want to pursue full-time.

I think one of the hardest parts is learning to trust the process, be patient, accept that everyone’s journey looks different, and remind myself that pursuing my dream doesn’t have to happen at the expense of enjoying the life I’m living right now.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a bilingual singer-songwriter making music that blends indie pop and indie folk. I love writing honest, personal lyrics inspired by my own experiences, emotions, and the things I’m still trying to figure out in life.

I think what sets me apart is the way I tell stories through my lyrics. I want my songs to feel real, vulnerable, and relatable, even when they’re about very personal experiences. I also love blending Spanish and English in my music. I think there’s something beautiful about bringing both languages together.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love listening to Good Hang with Amy Poehler. It always makes my day better 🙂 And honestly, any book by Matt Haig feels like a warm hug for the soul.
