Today we’d like to introduce you to Mason Carmichael.
Mason, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am the Senior Pastor of Jarrell Community Church, a church plant in Jarrell that launched on March 31st 2024. The journey to plant JCC began in 2019, when I was on staff at a church in Georgetown as a Youth Pastor. Through the prayer and guidance of the elders of the church, I felt that God was calling my wife and I to plant a church. Through even more prayer, we knew that God was calling us to Jarrell. With 14 families, we pioneered a church that, through God’s grace, has grown to around 100 people in the year and a half since our launch, with over 25 baptisms and 50 members. We have gotten to serve the school district through supply drives, provided meals for teachers, helped students with their reading, served our first responders, put on free family events for the community, and so much more. It is a privilege to call Jarrell home and to get to serve the city that we love so much. Our prayer is that we continue to see men, women, and children put their trust in Jesus as our town grows and is transformed by the Gospel.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a new church always comes with its challenges, and we have been no exception to this. We have had to move locations once within our first year, as well as deal with the financial cost of running a new church. Through this, though, God has been faithful and has continued go bless our ministry to the city of Jarrell.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Senior Pastor at a church. My week to week responsibilities include preparing a weekly sermon, meeting with volunteers and staff to plan events and help run ministries, and various coaching opportunities to help our leaders grow in their faith as they lead others. I also help lead small group Bible studies throughout Jarrell. I am most proud of the leadership development pipeline we have created at the church. We have equipped, capable leaders that are able to carry out the mission and vision of the church effectively. A unique aspect of this leadership development pipeline is something we call “team teaching”, where we invite men into the process of preparing/delivering a sermon as a part of a 2 person team. We prepare the sermon together and ultimately deliver the message side by side from the pulpit on Sunday morning. This gives a first-time preacher the ability to ease into delivering a sermon while being supported by someone with more experience.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
My favorite part about Jarrell is the people. There are bright, vibrant young families that are similar in age and stage of life to my wife and me. Jarrell is growing and very up and coming. My only complaint is that we are about 5 years away from more development, meaning that there aren’t many retail/restaurant options in Jarrell.
