Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Piña.
Hi Miguel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up in El Paso, Texas, I was raised in a family that knew the value of hard work and dedication. As the son of parents who had migrated from Mexico to the United States for a better life, I saw firsthand their sacrifices to give our family a better future. Determined to make the most of the opportunities given to me, I worked hard in school and became the first person in my family to attend college. I chose to study finance at Texas State University in San Marcos and graduated with my Bachelor’s degree. As I planted my roots in Austin, I was eager to give back to my community. My father had built a successful business owning local grocery stores in El Paso, and he taught me the value of entrepreneurship and community support. That is where I found my drive and passion for helping those around me. For the past eight years, I have been a local mortgage loan officer, helping families all over Texas pursue their dreams of homeownership. It has been an honor to be a part of such an important milestone in people’s lives and to help them achieve their dreams of financial stability and security. I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and for the lessons my family has taught me. Through hard work and dedication, I have been able to make a positive impact on the lives of those around me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up as a first-generation Latino from immigrant parents, I faced a unique set of challenges and obstacles that made my journey to success difficult. Even leaving my hometown of El Paso to attend Texas State University in central Texas was a major change. I suddenly found myself in a very different environment, far from the familiar comforts of the large Hispanic community I had grown up in. Despite my fears and doubts, I was determined to succeed in college. However, even after earning my degree, I found it challenging to adapt to the workplace as the youngest minority, often feeling like I was seen as less than my peers. It was not easy, but with the support of positive people around me and a strong work ethic, I could prove I was capable and deserving of success. My experiences taught me that taking risks and working hard can get you many places in life. I knew that by staying dedicated to my goals, I could make a difference and show my community that anything is possible. Despite my challenges, I remained committed to my dreams and aspirations, determined to make a positive impact and inspire others to pursue their goals.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a local mortgage loan officer, I’ve assisted clients with home loan needs since 2015. From first-time homebuyers to seasoned investors, I’m passionate about helping each client achieve their unique goals and dreams. Providing personalized service to every client is essential to me, as each individual has a story worth hearing and specific financial needs. Working closely with realtors in Austin is another aspect of my job that I value greatly. I strive to educate realtors about our local market and loan products so that they can better serve our clients. With the real estate market constantly changing, I dedicate time to ensuring that my realtor partners and clients are updated. One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is helping families pursue their dream of homeownership, especially when they’ve been told “no” in the past. I’ve had numerous client success stories, and each one fuels my passion for what I do. Being a trusted advisor to my clients and helping them find the best financial option for their families is what makes my job truly fulfilling.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and are any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Amidst the COVID-19 crisis, our industry underwent significant changes. We experienced uncertainty initially but then saw a boom in the real estate market. It was a lesson in adapting quickly and communicating effectively with clients. We continue to educate and advise clients on sound financial practices, loan options, and prudent investment choices, all with the understanding that unexpected crises like COVID-19 can arise anytime.
