Life & Work with Molly Meredith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Meredith.

Hi Molly, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As the eldest daughter, raised by a single mother, my story was put on pause for many years. Robin never wavered in her support of my dreams and, like most parents, told me I could be and do whatever I set my heart to. When it was my turn to fill the pages of my story, I never had to search for the first chapter – I always knew I it started with becoming a hairdresser. There were endless possibilities: movies and television, editorial work, weddings, even the dead need a beautician.

I have had the privilege of taking care of people from all walks of life and having access to a form of education that is unconventional. Learning from and about my clients is a great joy: their careers, their upbringings, their opinions. I see over 75 people a week and they are all dear to me because they are allowing me to constantly evolve as a human being. They influence every sentence, paragraph, and chapter of my story that is written and rewritten every day.

In many ways, I feel as though my story is just starting to be written – its author is finally me.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Something I struggle with every day and will for the rest of my life is the loss of my mother. Every challenge I have faced in life pales in comparison to the struggle of waking up everyday without her in my life.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a license holder of the science of cosmetology, more informally, a hairdresser. I specialize in masculine grooming, a term I feel is the most inclusive for today’s society. I am most proud of the relationship I have with my clients – they are not just haircuts to me, they are friends, confidants, and advisers. My genuine care for them and their lives is what sets me apart from the rest. Hairdressing is so much more than making people look good, it’s about making them feel good as well.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
When I consume any sort of media, I like it to be as far removed from my life as possible. Fantasy, fiction, periods pieces, etc. Escaping from real life, into other worlds and periods of time, is what keeps me grounded in the present day.
