Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Kanevski
Hi Natasha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Belarus-born Israeli-American based in Texas.
I became a full-time artist only around 6 years ago when I came to Texas.
I create meta-modernistic wall sculptures and large-scale wall installations. I have had works appear and win awards in juried art shows across the US and Europe, shown with selected galleries, including Solo and Duo Exhibits. I am represented by six art galleries and exhibited in a museum. I have just had a SOLO SHOW at Art Gallery Artifact, Manhattan, New York, a SOLO SHOW at JCB Gallery, Austin, TX, and a SOLO Show at JCC Art Gallery, Houston, Texas.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to becoming a full-time artist has been anything but smooth. Transitioning from a stable career to the unpredictable art world required immense dedication and resilience. Moving to a new country, “coming out” as an artist, and building my artistic practice from scratch presented logistical and emotional challenges. Finding recognition in a competitive field was difficult, especially with my sculptural work. The pandemic also disrupted exhibitions and opportunities. However, each challenge pushed me to refine my vision, experiment with new materials, and stay committed to my creative journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I create meta-modernistic sculptures and wall installations, using texture and contrast to evoke emotion and depth. My work is known for its organic yet structured compositions, featuring monochromatic palettes highlighting light and shadow interplay and challenging traditional boundaries of two-dimensional art.
My approach to materiality sets me apart—my sculptures appear fragile and heavy yet solid, lightweight, and tactile, inviting viewers to experience them beyond sight. I am most proud of establishing myself in the iconic New York art scene and internationally, with my work exhibited across the U.S. and Europe and collected worldwide. Each piece reflects my journey, and I am grateful to share it with others.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My most important lesson is to trust the creative process, embrace uncertainty, and be true to myself. Art is an ever-evolving journey, and technical, professional, or personal challenges are growth opportunities. I’ve learned that persistence and authenticity are key; staying true to my vision, even when the path is unclear, has led to the most meaningful breakthroughs. Success in art isn’t just about recognition but about continually pushing boundaries, experimenting, and allowing the work to evolve naturally.
