Today we’d like to introduce you to Penny Moore
Hi Penny, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Tenderling was born out of a deep commitment to creativity. Our story began in 2004 while working together at an ad agency in Los Angeles. Soon after we started working on side project to fill creative voids that didn’t happen in our work place. Down the road after several different jobs and lots of turns, we decided on some big life changes. We married and moved to Texas in the same month, all while launching Tenderling—a place where we could keep our passion to create fueled.
Our personal philosophy embraces hard work and the moments of rest in between. With 20 years together, our philosophy remains, but our company’s mission has evolved. We realized that our calling is not solely about creating, but also inspiring the creatives we get to meet along the way. Tenderling is here to empower a new generation of creative minds, fostering leadership, dedication, service and creative adventure. We achieve this one design, one story, one client, one choice at a time.
We pledge never to take the easy path or prioritize profits over doing what is right. We continue to inspire and be inspired by each other, one step at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Tenderling will celebrate 15 years this November. There’s no way we could have made it this far without learning through our challenges. As a husband and wife team, learning how to balance raising a family and growing a business has always been the top growth point. Some days are harder than others, but we always keep going. We’re able to conquer our challenges because we love what we do and the people we get to do it with. Tenderling has a team of the most creative and caring minds. It’s an honor to run a business where your team works so well together and aligns behind a common mission.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Tenderling specializes in branding for hospitality and multifamily. We are known for crafting stories that resonate with audiences that are unique to a client’s core offerings. We don’t do cookie cutter approaches and think of each project as a unique opportunity to bring a story to life.
Our team culture is our proudest achievement. We have spent the last 5 years pouring into our people through servant leadership practices. Developed by Robert Greenleaf in the 1970s, this is a conscious choice to grow and inspiring others by serving them first, not by power or control. This is felt throughout Tenderling, and we are so proud of it. We end up with a team of creatives that care deeply for our clients, our work and each other. It’s pretty cool and very special. We’re not perfect, and it takes constant learning.
The best example of this is how our team came together to create Camp Scribble, a week long summer art camp for elementary aged kids to learn branding. The team did all of it in their spare time. They developed an incredible curriculum targeted at how to explain branding to visually minded kids. Each kid then created their own brand in a positive and uplifting environment. It was amazing to see the happy faces each day and for them to see professionals in the workplace put aside their work to focus on them for the week. On top of it, many of Tenderling’s clients donated to the camp allowing 10 kids to attend for free.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you love something, don’t give up on it! Achieving goals takes time and perseverance. Overnight success isn’t real, and journeys are often filled with challenges. Don’t let negativity or obstacles deter you. Mistakes and doubts are natural parts of the process. Stay true to yourself, and success will follow.
