Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Dyan.
Hi Rebecca, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began being fascinated with creating beautiful photos after my second daughter was born in 2013. I knew I wanted to have lots of images to look back on of them as babies and as my girls grew and became determined to learn how. I loved it so much I wanted to create it for others. I dabbled with family photo sessions, but eventually, my business kind of on its own niched down to newborn and babies, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I now specialize in maternity, newborn and baby photography, and preserving baby’s first year of life. Babies grow and change so much during that first year, and to me, it’s so so so special, and now years later for me, looking back I know how it passes by so fast. I’m extremely passionate about documenting this time in families lives so they can look back on them forever.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a pretty smooth road, thankfully 🙂 A lot of the creative parts have come naturally to me. Definitely one of the biggest struggles would be time management. Managing a business, along with being a wife and mom to three small girls can be a bit demanding. Throughout the years, I’ve gotten much better at it, but still always room for improvement.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a maternity, newborn, and baby photographer based in Austin, TX. I have my own light and airy natural light studio in NW Austin where most of my work is done. I specialize in preserving baby’s first year and am known for my First Year Collective Membership which documents all of the important milestones throughout the first year of life. My goal is to make my client’s session day and experience truly special.
I will style your family with my own studio wardrobe, pamper you on your big day, and provide you with the most beautiful heirlooms to enjoy your portraits.
My desire as an artist is to preserve those moments and milestones that pass by all too quickly, and provide you with a legacy to pass down to generations.
I am most proud of how I’ve been able to niche down to such a special time in a family’s life, whether it’s their first baby or fourth baby, preserving this time for the new addition and family is truly special and such an honor.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My best advice is to make sure all legalities are worked out before starting your business. Know what to charge (and you’re worth), and charge appropriately. There is a lot to the business side i.e., taxes, expenses, etc. that are no so fun that you need to learn how to take care of from the get go.
