Life & Work with Secily Jimenez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Secily Jimenez.

Hi Secily, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m originally from Houston Texas, or as we call it H-town. Growing up, I have always had a particular passion for music. Music for me can communicate things far beyond the human grasp. I produce, sing, and write my own music! However, I went to college for something totally different. At the time, I wasn’t ready to live in my truth and pursue my endeavors fully as an entertainer. Nonetheless, I still got a Master’s Degree out of it in Sociology. Now, I’ve been working on my craft constantly and I’m excited to have the opportunity to do so! In true Leo fashion, I’ve always loved to be in front of the camera and entertain people. So, I’ve been able to use Tiktok in order to find creative ways to showcase my voice. I am hoping that Tiktok will be the platform for me to jumpstart my career.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No.

I have had many personal and professional struggles in my budding career so far. I’ve definitely heard the words “no” and “can’t” more often than not. It’s frustrating, especially as a Latina woman. I feel like we are constantly being put in a box and being told we are incapable of doing certain things because of where we come from. It seems like Latinas have to have some Spanish guitar or at least some Spanish words in their songs in order to be accepted into mainstream pop culture. This is where I find an issue. Because like most artists, I want to and I am capable of doing it all. I have also felt like there have been people trying to control my career and take me in a direction that I don’t want to go because they think they know what I need. I’ve had to put my foot down and will continue to do so until I am where I belong.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would like to say I do everything. I would like to be known one day as a “Supermodel Superstar”, a term I coined a while ago. Not only am I a singer-songwriter and producer, but I am also a full-time model. I have just been signed to Wilhelmina Models in London and have been signed to Supreme Management in NYC. It’s another passion of mine, and I’ve always dreamt of excelling in both careers. I am still in the process of getting more music together and telling my story through my songs. I have recently started working with a team and we are working together to get craft my sound. Every day I work and try to excel in my dreams. Using Tiktok to showcase my voice is what I do in the meantime to build my following while I work on everything I need to work on. I have been able to amass almost 300k on the platform and counting. I am so grateful that I have people who are watching me and supporting me, and I will never take it for granted. I would like to say that I am most proud of my growth. The person I was this time last year is not the person I am. Today. I am ever-changing and I try to grow every day. I challenge myself consistently and will continue to do so until I am “there.” For that, I am proud. What sets me apart from others is exactly what sets you apart from others- you are you and I am me. There will never be anyone like you, just like there will never be anyone like me.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as happiness. Whatever your happiness is, that is your success. My happiness is being able to reach the heart of another person and make them feel better in the way that I know-how.
