Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Cano
Hi Stephanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My photography journey began when I was 13. I found my love for photography through old movies and music. I spent a significant amount of time creating, and art became a big part of my youth.
I grew up in a family where sports were a big part of our daily lives, and for some that’s a wonderful thing. For me, it was more time spent on the sidelines.
I used photography as a way to detach myself from the world I was in- constantly feeling like I wasn’t good enough, simple because I wasn’t an athlete.
Fast forward to my adult years, I took a leap of faith and with the support of my husband I decided to turn this passion of mine into a business. I had hopes and dreams, but I was fearful of failure.
I spent most of my time educating myself, I wanted to be able to offer the best to my future clients and be confident in what I was selling. A playful experience, all while capture timeless images.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business is never smooth, especially for someone who hit Publish on their website in 2020.
When most businesses were closing down, I was starting a new business. With that being said, I spent the majority of my time learning and improving my skill. Not a day went by that I didn’t have my camera in hand.
Even with the lack of clients, I made sure to use any opportunity to shoot around my garden and my town.
I believe this is what set me apart, and helped my business grow in a matter of months.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work includes a variety of clients, from graduating seniors to families.
I am best known for my senior work, as well as my senior rep club- known as SCP Rep Club. my passion lies in helping our youth see their value and grow in confidence. I truly believe that helping our youth grow in confidence and seeing themselves in a new light helps them prepare for the world ahead. my greatest passion is being a good role model for my younger girls.
My goal is to provide my clients with realistic images that showcase their true beauty. Our world is full of filters and AI, I want to create an environment that is authentic and meaningful.
I am most proud of my “Beautiful You campaign” which I created for my seniors. This campaign was made to focus on our natural beauty, and our inner self. This is something that is very near and dear to me.
As well as being able to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and comforting to my clients.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
The best advice is to reach out. Don’t be afraid to say Hi. Most photographers work independently and spend a significant amount of time behind a screen. Thats why its always refreshing when a fellow photographer reaches out- whether for mentorship, collaboration, or simply to share a kind word of encouragement
I have found that a kind comment goes a long way!
