We’re looking forward to introducing you to Marsha Stephanson. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Marsha, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, it’s been working out and really focusing on me. I joined a coaching program through the Ladder app, and I was instantly drawn to Kelly Matthews’ style of coaching; it just spoke to me. I used to be a personal trainer years ago, so this strength-based training approach has honestly given me life. I signed up in November of last year and haven’t looked back since.
What’s bringing me the most joy, though, is the transformation, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I know I’ll never have the same body I had before children, but I’m falling in love with this new version of myself. I’m stronger, more grounded, and learning to embrace this season as a woman and mother with more grace and self-love than ever before.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Marsha Stephanson, founder of Cater to Mom, a postpartum care brand dedicated to nurturing and supporting mothers after birth. Cater to Mom was born from one of the most vulnerable seasons of my life. After having my daughter, I found myself overwhelmed, under-supported, and wondering why no one prepared me for the emotional and physical realities of postpartum. It was supposed to be a joyful time, but I felt isolated and invisible. That experience stayed with me, and it sparked something in me.
I started Cater to Mom to create what I wish I had: a space where mothers feel seen, nurtured, and cared for after birth. Through our curated postpartum boxes, we deliver more than just products; we deliver reminders that a mother’s healing and well-being matter just as much as her baby’s.
What makes this work so meaningful to me is that it’s personal. I’m not building a business just for the sake of it; I’m building a movement that challenges the way we care for mothers. Our boxes are thoughtful, our mission is heartfelt, and everything we do is grounded in the belief that moms deserve to be poured into.
Right now, I’m expanding Cater to Mom into corporate gifting and apparel, and also using my voice more to speak openly about the real and raw parts of motherhood. I want moms to know they’re not alone, and that they deserve healing, rest, and joy.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My mom, without question. Although she’s no longer with me, her spirit lives on in everything I do. She always reminded us growing up, “Why settle for ordinary when you can be extraordinary?” That stuck with me. She taught me the importance of showing up as your full, unique self and embracing your individuality with confidence.
Her words still guide me today, in motherhood, in business, and in how I walk through the world. And now, I pass that same message on to my children: be bold, be kind, and never dim your light for anyone.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely. A little over a year into launching Cater to Mom, I experienced a traumatic pregnancy loss, one that nearly took my life. At the time, it was just me and my husband packing boxes, pouring our hearts into each shipment. Coming home from the hospital, recovering physically, mentally, and emotionally, I was on bed rest… and still, we were just days away from shipping our monthly subscription boxes to moms.
I remember feeling like I couldn’t do it, like I didn’t have anything left to give. But my best friend drove down from Houston, and between her and my husband, they followed my direction and helped get every single box out on time.
That moment would have easily been the end. But in many ways, Cater to Mom saved me. It gave me something to hold onto when I was trying to find my footing again. It reminded me of my purpose to support other moms when they need it most, even while I was holding my own broken heart.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
100%. I believe in showing up as my authentic self in everything I do. Whether I’m sharing my story, supporting moms through Cater to Mom, or just being present in everyday life, what you see is what you get. I’ve walked through enough in life to know there’s no freedom in pretending.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Honestly, no regrets! Leaving my corporate job and taking a leap of faith to build my business was one of the scariest yet most freeing decisions I’ve ever made. I didn’t have all the answers, and I had no idea what the future held, but I trusted myself and moved anyway. Anyone who takes that kind of leap knows there’s no room for regret, only growth. That’s entrepreneur life!
