Meet Aaron Stephens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Stephens.

Aaron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like a lot of musicians, I started playing music at church. I saw how music moved people and it felt like magic to me. It inspired me to practice a lot after school, even after a long day of football practice. I found a way to express myself and release emotions that I often just bottled up.

My passion for music and songwriting grew exponentially during my last couple of years of high school. I had a rock band for a while and once I graduated, I left for Texas State, where I could be close to the “Live Music Capital of the World.” I recorded a 5 song EP in 2012 called “To Reach Your Soul” at The Bubble Studios in Austin and have been performing and releasing music ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. The life of a musician is often not very glamorous. It’s a lot of driving and being away from family, missing important events in their lives. Loading heavy gear that costs more than what you’re making that week into an empty room. It happens to the best of them. It’s still an amazing blessing to do this for a living though. On the good days, it’s the greatest job in the world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer/songwriter, producer, and most of all a musician. I feel like a jack of all trades to be completely honest, but I do think I play some funky guitar. I’m most proud of the venues and artists we’ve been able to work with here in Texas. There are so many great places here in Austin alone. Antone’s is legendary for me, C-Boys Heart & Soul is another great venue that really gave us a chance.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is seeing B.B King with my family in my hometown, McAllen, Texas. We didn’t get too many blues legends down there when I was a kid, it was a huge deal!
