Today we’d like to introduce you to Alysia Bedgood.
Hi Alysia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew up in South Austin when Austin still was weird and a little crunchy. I have always been driven by the goals of living a healthy life, helping others to be their best self, constantly learning and keeping things a little weird. I was a classic multitasking overachiever in high school being at the top of my class and the Drill Team Captain and I also started my love of running in cross country. At the University of Texas I continued my ADD lifestyle by working two jobs and participating as a Hellraiser Honey, My job as an athletic academic tutor solidified my love of working with (driven, competative, high intensity) athletes and the Hellraisers made sure I never missed a home, Texas A&M or OU game. Med school was a reality check of the dysfunction of the health of the US and our medical system so my goal was to do better and be better. As soon as I was able, I started my own practice where I do my best reduce waste, provide a wide spectrum of options to meet patients where they are and make them feel like more than a number.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have never been poor but I also have not liven a life of privilege. I have worked multiple jobs for most of my career to be able to practice the way I think medicine should be.
I’ve had a few delays in my career from a lost MCAT registration in the early days of internet registration to originally started my training in Ob/Gyn in New York and then moving back to Houston for family Medicine but I had some amazing experiences along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Inertia Sports Medicine/Wellmade Body Co. . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Inertia Sports Medicine- sports medicine branch
Specializing in everything sports related by surgery.
The goal is to get people active, get them back to active and keep them active. through correcting imbalances, physical therapy, nutrition and life optimization, prp, peptides and education. We treat everything from concussions, to back pain, to gait disfunction to sprains and strains.
Wellmade Body Co. – Our functional medicine branch
We works to get the body and mind back in balance and not just cover problems up.
Coming from a medical doctor background I can really build on that through functional medicine to dive into chronic dysfunction like thyroid disorder, hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes and obesity to help find the root causes and practical paths to health.
Both:
We are known for listen to peoples individual stories and treating the whole person and not just the problem of the moment.
I am most proud that we have patients that have been with us since the beginning and that most of our new patients are referred by friends and family.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
A large part of my practice is cash based. Its not because I am greedy. it is because the medical system these days was not made in a way to allow a provider to provide more than 10 minutes of care for the payment received from insurance and still be able to pay their bills. If I could do anything in the world with one wish, I would wish for people to care about their health and the environment they live in above all of the material extras we have in our lives.
I have also had the privilege of working with many of the high schools and two of the professional sports leagues in the area.
I also sell my farm fresh chicken eggs.
