Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Walker
Hi Alyssa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Connecting community through writing has always been a passion of mine. I began Twenty Something SA in 2015 as a way to showcase local businesses, connect with San Antonio and encourage others to explore the city. My best friend and I would visit new local spots and take photos to share our experiences. The same year I began a social media company. It excites me to work in industries that are new and open-ended.
In my mid-twenties I began to develop a close relationship with cannabis after discovering CBD helped me immensely with anxiety and stress. I was determined to share the healing properties of plant medicine. I became a cannabis advocate and began Canna Chill in 2018. The Farm Bill had recently passed which allowed the hemp market to blossom in Texas. After spending so many years online, I am excited to forge new connections IRL through canna-centric events. Providing a safe space for individuals to discuss and take part in cannabis culture continues to inspire me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Many of the difficulties I have encountered have been internal. My work at its core is artistic, so the most difficult of times have been the periods where I am unable to tap into my creativity. This can happen during times of self-doubt or paralyzing perfectionism. Many of the events I host encompass meditation or yoga for these mindful practices have helped me overcome many of my personal struggles.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Creating events has become my favorite artistic endeavor. Environment is very important for my vision and once I connect with a space, everything seems to flow. All of my events are alcohol-free. I stopped drinking in 2015 (a transformative year for me!) and feel it is important to host events that do not include alcohol.
Any big plans?
This year I am looking forward to creating more spaces for individuals to come together and connect over plant medicine. I am also excited to collaborate and connect with other creatives! Further into the future, my plan is to venture into wellness retreats. The world can be so fast-paced, especially digitally, and I feel it is important to slow down and connect with nature, our inner selves and each other.
