Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelie Robitaille.
Hi Amelie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Quebec City, Canada, am an avid traveler and a lover of life, and a global citizen. I believe that each decision we make impacts the world, and I’m a firm supporter of mindful consumption and responsible choices.
I began my career in the jewelry world a bit “by accident”, but I knew right from the start that it was a world where I wanted to make a difference. Armed with an undeniable passion (read: a little stubbornness) and a thirst for knowledge, I began learning the ropes of the trade through a mix of hands-on experience, mentorship, and quality education.
After graduating from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as an Applied Jewelry Professional, I completed the GIA Diamonds and Diamond Grading program. I spent several years working in traditional jewelry stores grading and selling mined diamonds, when I began to develop an underlying feeling, right there in my gut, that I could no longer be part of the socially and environmentally conflict-ridden practice of mining for gems on a large scale. I knew that there had to be more sustainable ways to love and treasure the beauty of diamonds, gemstones, and jewelry, without compromising the environment and its inhabitants.
I began to research new advances in diamond growing technologies and alternative options to mined diamonds. What I discovered was the beginning of a new era for diamonds and I was very inspired to be part of it. In 2016, I left my beloved Canada behind, traveled more than 4000 miles to Austin, Texas, and started from scratch. In November 2016, Identity Diamonds opened its doors.
Traditions CAN be improved. Luxury CAN be sustainable. Diamonds CAN be sourced without conflict. Identity Diamonds is the actualization of a very deep sense that we can all make a difference, one diamond at the time.

We are experts in alternatives: from American-grown, carbon-neutral, traceable lab-grown diamonds, to non-diamond gems such as fantastic moissanite, and breathtaking fair-mined Montana sapphires. We curate amazing ready-made pieces in addition to specializing in custom design. Our pieces are crafted using recycled precious metals, and hand-set by hand with precision, workmanship, and the utmost care. Our process is extremely thoughtful and we put our heart into every piece. We are a team of strong, skilled, badass women and we couldn’t feel more blessed to be a small part of the commitment that exists between so many couples from all walks of life!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
In French Canadian, we say: “Don’t trip on the flowers on the carpet”, meaning that we sometimes focus on minute details and obstacles that are mostly imaginary or of little significance. Follow your gut. Focus on your strengths and find a support team for the things you’re not great at – don’t wear all the hats (if you can). Your talent is what will move the needle; focus on that. Reverse engineer your way to your dream and you will get there. Don’t be impulsive. Keep vibrating high energy. The beauty is in the journey; we never really “get there” as the destination always evolves. Joy is in the little things – celebrate your victories, enjoy the ride, and gave yourself grace.
