Today we’d like to introduce you to Arsalan Hafezi. Them and their team share their story with us below:
In 1989, Arsalan and Arezo Hafezi opened the first Modern Salon & Spa in Charlotte, North Carolina. Arsalan and Arezo have studied and practiced alongside beauty luminaries such as Vidal Sassoon and Toni & Guy, DJ Muldoon, as well as a number of the world’s most-renowned hair academics throughout Europe and the AVEDA Institute here in the United States.
With the Hafezi’s combined expertise and passion for customer service, their first salon was a success. The business expanded and the Hafezis created a luxurious European salon and spa in the heart of Charlotte, pampering guests with attention and expertise unmatched by the competition. Today, Modern Salon & Spa has 4 locations in North Carolina and a Corporate Office.
Arsalan had long envisioned distributing top-of-the-line products and tools to salon professionals for improved quality of service beyond Modern Salon and Spa, this vision became HC Beauty in 2014. With a goal of producing the highest end result for their guests, the Hafezis traveled globally to create partnerships with creators of organic hair care lines and top-of-the-line hair care tools. These high-performing hair tools paired with best-in-class product lines and inspired business advisors provide salon professionals the resources they need to be successful. HC Beauty is currently distributing nationwide with a focus on the East Coast and Austin, TX.
In 2021, Arsalan had a dream of bringing the Modern legacy + HC Beauty culture to Austin. Modern Collective Studios is the embodiment of 30 years of dedicated service and the drive of 7 years of dedicated connection across the beauty community. Modern Collective Studios is a new concept salon that provides emerging stylists the training to become top-tier stylists and the mentorship to choose their path of being a lead stylist or becoming an entrepreneur within the beauty industry.
Arezo and Arsalan have worked together since 1989, balancing their personal and professional lives to create a business they and their family can be proud of. Today, their organizations are responsible corporate citizens, playing roles in the non-profit sector with local organizations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Breaking into a new geographical market can always be tricky. However, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the support we’ve received from the different beauty schools and the community of Austin. Everything is bigger in Texas including Texan Hospitality. We so are thankful and can’t wait to give back to this community.

Helping individuals find their meaning in life for the benefit of the greater good gives me a meaningful purpose in my life and what I consider success.
