Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Reed
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up around music. My Grandfather owned and operated a local radio station in Southern California. It was there that I was exposed to lots of different genres of music that heavily influence me today. I was always singing and writing song lyrics and poems as a kid. (They were very cringey.) I took voice lessons and piano lessons here and there as a kid but I didn’t really stick with it. As a teenager I joined choir, and the school rock band and sang at church. I tried forming groups or bands with friends but I always more serious than they were. Music was and is my passion. After many, many times trying to work with other musicians that didn’t pan out. I put music on the back burner temporarily. After a trip to Nashville for a girls trip my passion for music was reignited again. I came home and immediately got to work. I challenged myself to post videos of me singing acapella every day for a year. That challenge helped build my confidence and helped me grow with creatively. That led to an oppurtunity to attend Mike Beaty’s Model and Talent Expo in Dallas, Tx. I auditioned for several different things but my main focus was singing and song writing. That’s where I met my producer Christopher “C-Ray” Roberts and his partner Marc Williams. I signed a deal with them and have been working with them ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think some of the frustrations have been not having the necessary resources to create on my own and be able to support myself completely financially with my own music.
Also, social media. I definitely have a love/hate relationship with it!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Independent Artist and singer-songwriter. I create original music, perform, and manage my career, from writing and recording songs to connecting with my audience and building my brand.
My music is a mix of alternative pop, indie rock, and elements of acoustic and soulful influences. I combine raw, heartfelt lyrics with emotional melodies about love, resilience, and personal growth that resonate with my audience.
I write from introspection and from observation. I don’t divert from being my authentic self and I think that’s what sets me apart from others.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I hope to see the industry change how the independent artists are paid. Artists put all that they have into what they create. Music that is a close companion for millions of people. To help them through all aspects of their lives. It’s a shame that they can’t even support themselves or their families from what they do.
