Meet Ashton Miller of Wimberley, Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Miller

Hi Ashton, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am an interior designer, alongside my husband who is a builder. Originally I went to nursing school and I am a licensed RN, while my husband was in oil and gas for years prior to being a builder. He started his company, Back 40 Builders, by doing small remodels locally, while we lived in the Houston area at the time. It grew so much that I quit my nursing job in 2019 to join him full time handling all of the design side, as well as helping with some of the behind the scenes business stuff. At that point we were doing various size renovations, flipping homes and began our journey with custom new builds! I started my own interior design company in 2021 called Miller + Co. Designs and then we moved to Wimberley in 2022. In 2023, I also started a small business doing seasonal and event decorating, called Porch Perfect. I have such a passion and love for all things design and decorating and I absolutely love getting to help my client’s visions come to life through that passion! We have been so fortunate to become a part of this community and I only hope to grow and create more beautiful spaces here!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Moving was probably the biggest challenge along the way. We knew we wanted a better life for our family and have always dreamt of living in the hill country and wanted to make that change while our kids were younger, so we just up and moved! While we still had jobs and projects going in Houston, we had to start making a name for ourselves here and it almost feels like starting over, but we have had amazing support! Also, quitting my steady nursing job those years back was a scary change! We’ve had to take a few big leaps in our journey and just have faith in God and the process that this is what we are meant to be doing!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My small business, Porch Perfect, specializes in seasonal decorating. It started as residential front porches but grew into event and speciality decorating as well! I have done business store fronts and worked with photographers for photo sets!
As far as interior design, I would say Miller + Co. is versatile and I am very open to creating custom spaces based on my client’s wants or taste. I will also try to give them options and ideas that maybe they may not think of or normally go for themselves. I think it’s my job to push those boundaries for them and go outside of the box, but I also ultimately help to mold the ideas they may already have but don’t know how to quite piece together. For my own personal style though, I would say I definitely gravitate towards edgier and moodier styles while adding in vintage and rustic elements. I love thrifting and finding the good old stuff and bringing it back to life by making it a great statement piece. I would say I am most proud of my growth over the years in my design and finding my niche. I have learned a lot working with my husband, and not just about what tile to pick out, but all that goes in to building a home and thinking about every little aspect from where a plug should go to custom cabinetry styles. It’s definitely a process!

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My family and our journey in this world. It’s incredibly important to me that we are creating respectable businesses that our kids could take over and run someday, if they wanted to! Getting to do what I love to do every day with my family backing me up, and the amazing people we get to meet and work with, is an absolute dream!
