Meet Baliee Karnowski of Lorena, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Baliee Karnowski.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I used to bake all the time with my grandma before she died. Once she passed, I stop baking for a while because it made me sad to think about her. During the pandemic, I was invited to go to a cookie decorating party by my mom. She told me that she thought I’d like it since I love baking and I am good at drawing. She was right! I had an amazing time decorating the cookies. It was then where I decided to pick up baking again and I completely fell in love with cookies. I struggled with finding a recipe that would maintain taste as well as hold a shape. I had gone through at least 10 different recipes before I made to decision to create my own. I had learned what worked for my environment, the ingredients I could get, and what each ingredient does to the final outcome. I finally found the perfect ratios to create my own recipe and I’ve been using it ever since! With time, I have grown so much in my decorating techniques and it shows! You should see my first cookie set! LOL! I’m still learning and getting better with each cookie set I do. I absolutely love being able to give my clients beautiful, custom cookies with all the love baked in!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first started my business, I was making $18,000 a year, working 4 jobs, in my junior year of college online, and had nothing to my name. With bills and trying to pay for college, I was struggling to keep my business afloat. I also was charging the smallest amount per dozen in all of central Texas! It was not a smooth road, but I learned so much about myself during those times and it has helped me get to where I am today!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make every cookie set completely custom to each customer. I specialize in sugar cookies but I love making different flavors for special occasions! I am so proud of the growth I’ve made through the years and the people I’ve been able to serve with my little art pieces.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Pray in all times: good or bad. Failure does not mean you should give up, just breathe and try as many times as you need to until you succeed. Don’t compare yourself to anyone. My favorite quote is “Comparison is the thief of joy”-Theodore Roosevelt
