Today we’d like to introduce you to Barrett Raven.
Hi Barrett, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I didn’t originally set out to build a real estate team or a media platform around helping people relocate to Austin. Like a lot of people, my path here was shaped more by relationships and opportunities than by a perfectly mapped-out plan.
I’ve always been drawn to work that sits at the intersection of people, trust, and major life decisions. Real estate quickly became a natural fit because buying or selling a home is rarely just a financial transaction. It’s usually tied to a career change, a growing family, or someone taking a leap into a completely new season of life. I found that I genuinely loved walking alongside people during those moments.
Over time, I began working with more and more clients moving to Austin from out of state. Many of them were trying to make huge decisions about neighborhoods, schools, commutes, and lifestyle without really knowing the city. That led me to start creating YouTube videos simply to answer the questions I was hearing every day. What started as a small resource unexpectedly grew into a major part of our business and allowed us to help families from all over the country confidently make Austin home.
Today, I lead The Raven Residential Group at eXp Realty, a team focused on delivering a highly organized, relationship-driven experience for buyers and sellers across Austin and the surrounding communities. Our goal has never been to be the biggest team, but to create a thoughtful, high-touch experience where clients feel genuinely guided and cared for throughout the process.
At the end of the day, the work is still about people. Helping someone navigate a move, find community, or step into a new chapter of life is incredibly meaningful, and it’s what continues to motivate me and our team every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, although I think most entrepreneurs eventually realize that the challenges are actually what shape the business into something sustainable.
Early on, one of the biggest struggles was learning that success in real estate isn’t just about working hard. It’s about building systems, setting boundaries, and learning how to lead both clients and people well. There were seasons where growth came faster than structure, which meant long hours, constant availability, and trying to carry too much personally. Like many agents, I initially believed saying yes to everything was the path to success, but over time I learned that clarity and focus serve clients far better than burnout ever could.
Another challenge has been transitioning from being an individual producer to leading a team. The skills that make someone successful as an agent aren’t always the same skills required to build an organization. Learning how to delegate, trust others, and create a shared vision rather than doing everything myself was a significant shift.
The market itself has also gone through dramatic changes over the past several years, and helping clients navigate uncertainty while staying steady and optimistic required a lot of growth personally and professionally.
Looking back, those challenges were incredibly formative. They pushed me to build a business centered around relationships, thoughtful processes, and long-term sustainability rather than quick wins. In many ways, the struggles helped clarify not just how I wanted to work, but who I wanted to serve and what kind of experience we wanted to create for our clients.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Raven Residential Group at eXp Realty?
The Raven Residential Group is a residential real estate team based in Austin, Texas, focused primarily on helping people relocate to the area as well as local families navigating major life transitions through buying or selling a home. A large portion of our clients are moving from out of state, often making decisions about Austin neighborhoods, schools, and lifestyle from hundreds or even thousands of miles away.
Because of that, our approach has naturally become very education-driven. We’re probably best known for creating in-depth video content and resources that help people understand what living in Austin is actually like, beyond just home prices or listings. Our goal is to help clients feel confident and informed long before they ever step on a plane to visit.
What sets us apart is the level of intentionality around the client experience. We’ve built clear processes for both buyers and sellers that prioritize preparation, communication, and reducing stress during what is often a very emotional decision. Real estate can sometimes feel transactional, but we’ve worked hard to create something that feels more relational and consultative. Many of our clients become long-term relationships rather than one-time transactions, which is something we value deeply.
Brand-wise, what I’m most proud of is that our business genuinely reflects who we are. We’ve tried to build a team culture centered around trust, professionalism, and hospitality. Growth has never been about becoming the biggest team in the market, but about serving people exceptionally well and creating an environment where both clients and team members feel supported.
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to know, it’s that moving to a new city or selling a home isn’t just a logistical decision. It’s deeply personal. Our role is to provide clarity, guidance, and steady leadership so people can make those decisions with confidence and excitement about what comes next.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I LOVE punk and country music! Like, kind of obsessed. Also, I used to play in a punk rock band in high school and college. We toured the country and recorded albums and everything! haha
